So many good reviews for this game and I thoroughly enjoyed Small Town Terrors: Galdor's Bluff so I wanted to give this game a try. I only played the trial and I just didn't find this fun or interesting enough to buy. The storyline was just okay but I did enjoy the creepy stalker (other reviewers indicated zombies). I did get a little frustrated because I knew what needed to be done in each scene to progress in the game but often my inventory items were not the correct ones even though they could be used in the situation. For example, I had a wire coat hanger and needed to unclog a horizontal drain at a fountain but the correct item was a toilet plunger which I found later in the game.
Overall this just wasn't a fun game for me. The almost monotone color scheme of each scene was unappealing, having to collect health packs seemed an unnecessary task, I didn't care for the short movies and would have preferred longer cut scenes and the hidden object scenes were just junk piles. I did think the puzzles were decent and a couple were even a little challenging.
After this, I played the trial of Small Town Terrors: Pilgrim's Hook and will be buying it because the story and gameplay was much more fun to me.
I don't recommend this game.

This is the second Dana Knightstone game I've played and I enjoy the detailed storyline as part of a game. It's similar to Nancy Drew games though not done nearly as well or as challenging. The graphics are nicely done with lots of color which is a nice change from the creepy dark games that are so popular. The puzzles were mostly very easy and gameplay progresses through a handful of chapters. This is a good game for those who like puzzle adventure games with puzzles that aren't too challenging. Players who enjoy hidden object scenes will be disappointed as there are only a handful of those. I would have given it 5 stars if the puzzles were more difficult.
I recommend this game!

I played the trial and decided this was a "must buy". The storyline held my interest throughout the game. The graphics were crisp with a good bit of color, the voice overs were decent and there wasn't too much dialogue. Since I'm not a fan of hidden object scenes I greatly appreciated the option to play a card game instead. There was a good variety of puzzles throughout the game and only once or twice when I wasn't sure what to do next. A map is provided that shows your current location and areas where there are active tasks to be completed.
I think a beginner to this type of game might get a little frustrated but other players would probably find it enjoyable for a few hours of entertainment.
I recommend this game!

I played the trial first and decided it was a "must buy". This is such a wonderful change from the creepy dark games that are so abundant. The graphics are crisp and the colors vibrant. Little Gloria looks almost lifelike and her eyes are stunning! The dialogue and voice overs add to the enjoyment of the game.
The gameplay is linear which is nice so you have an idea of what needs to done and where to obtain the inventory items you'll need. The HO scenes are not the typical junk pile and have a time travel twist which makes them more interesting than usual. For me the game had a good balance of HO, puzzle and "find and fix" where you need to find items that go into inventory that are used to fix something elsewhere in the game. Inventory items are used fairly quickly so you're not carrying around a bunch of things with no idea where or when to use them.
You are given an amulet which earns colored gems as you acquire elemental abilities of fire, water, wind, etc. The amulet is the "key" that opens doors as you progress through the game. I found comparing my amulet to the slot where it fits on the door very helpful for indicating when I might be able to open the door. If the slot showed I needed more gems in my amulet then I knew it'd be awhile before I needed to return to that area.
An jump map is provided and shows your current location as well as areas with active tasks that need to be completed.
The storyline starts off rather interesting but flames out at the end. Overall though I still think it was much fun to play and I might even play it again in the future.
I recommend this game!

I only played about 15 minutes of the trial and just couldn't go any longer. I'm not a fan of HO games but it seems like they're a part of every adventure puzzle game. In the short time I played there were at least 5 HO scenes which is about 4 too many for that length of game play. The one puzzle I encountered was very simple and so not really a puzzle at all. The storyline was not interesting enough to persuade me to play through the HO scenes. I think someone who really really likes HO might enjoy this game.
I don't recommend this game.

Overall I liked the game and it was entertainment for a few hours. The storyline and gameplay was interesting enough that I purchased the game after completing the demo because I wanted to know how the story ended. There are a few moments of creepiness but overall the game is not very scary. The graphics are beautiful and crisp.
Although this game is labeled hidden object it is more a combination of puzzles, seek and find and a handful of hidden object scenes. It irritates me to no end that BigFish lumps hidden object games in with adventure puzzle games as I am not all a fan of hidden object scenes. The most unfun aspect of this game was finding a needed object to solve a puzzle, and then having the object broken up into 5 - 10 pieces and scattered about the scene. The pieces are colored to match their background and so were difficult to see at times. I just found this irritating and tiresome to repeat throughout the game for just about every crucial item needed to solve a puzzle. The option to change the screen brightness is included in the game menu and I used it a few times to help find difficult to see pieces. Once or twice I needed to use a hint because the piece blended too well with the background.
The puzzles were okay. Most were fairly easy and would not be a challenge for advanced players. There is one where you need to complete a handful of chalk drawings and the game is super picky about getting the lines correct. I had my daughter do this puzzle because I got too frustrated but didn't want to use the skip button. There aren't obvious instructions for the puzzles but I found that I could get a small window with brief instructions to pop up when I needed them. I don't remember if I clicked in the puzzle area or just hovered for a moment but instructions did appear.
There is a map that allows you to jump around to different locations and it is crucial because there are many objects you find in one area that are used to solve a puzzle in a completely unrelated area. To earn the map for a particular scene you have to find 3 or 4 coins in the scene. They're usually easy to find. At the top of the screen is a counting display that shows how many coins you found and need to find, and how many tasks you've completed and need to complete. The task counter was extremely helpful so I knew where I still had things to do.
I think this is a good game for players who enjoy adventure puzzle games and want to do a little thinking. If you're a fan of easy hidden object scenes then this isn't the game for you.
I recommend this game!

Overall I liked this game. I easily won 1st place for every competition so if you want a challenge this game isn't for you. It's also very repetitive but what kept my interest was being able to cook recipes from the different countries, and I did find the dialogue between the contestants rather humorous. This game has even inspired me to try a few of the Russian dishes.
I recommend this game!

This type of crime/mystery adventure game is exactly the type I really enjoy. I liked the storyline with the mystery of why are people associated with the film being murdered and I'd like to discover the identity of the culprit. However, the game mechanics just aren't my cup of tea. Maybe it's just my mouse but I had a difficult time finding the exact clickable area on an item to be able to select it. Also, I really didn't care for the slide viewer and spot the difference games. The puzzles were very simple and easy as well.
I only managed to play this game for about 30 minutes before I quit playing so this isn't a review of the entire game. Perhaps if I stuck with it I would find more to like but with so many other games this one just wasn't interesting and fun enough to keep playing. Also, I had the music volume at the very end of the slider to mute it but I could still hear it playing softly in the background. In almost all games I prefer to completely mute the background music.
I did like the map feature and found it very useful. The character dialogue was good as well.
Overall, I think if you like the slide viewer game then this is probably a good way to spend a few hours.
I recommend this game!

If you like puzzle games with a decent storyline then you'll probably like this game. There are actually 3 stories to work through with many puzzles to solve and also a few hidden object puzzles. I really dislike hidden object scenes but these had objects that fit with the storyline and were also sometimes puzzles that involved combining objects. Overall I enjoyed the game, visual style, dialogue and even the music (which I almost always mute). It only took a few hours to complete the entire game so it's a little short but I used a coupon so it cost less than five dollars.
