Royal Life Hard to be a Queen is a fun and hilarious TM game. I loved this game from the minute I began playing and it only got better. Many times, TM games become a bit boring but not so with Hard to be a Queen. I loved the very funny dialog that pops up between the scenes. The tasks also kept me involved in the game. When I find a TM game like Royal Life Hard to be a Queen it is a keeper for me.
The only thing that would make the game a bit better, IMHO, is if the icons for the inventory were larger. It was difficult for me to see how many resources I had available as the numbers were so tiny, particularly the ones on the side that indicated the bricks or other miscellaneous items I needed to collect in order to move forward. Aside from the small icons, the rest of the game is excellent. I love the graphics and, of course, the dialog that at times had me rolling on the floor.
Royal Life Hard to be a Queen is a TM game that will keep me entertained for hours. Kudos to the developer for creating an excellent game that I think is one of the best that I have played this year. Even though Hard to be a Queen is an instant buy for me, please try the demo to see if it is one that you will enjoy as well. Happy gaming!
A year ago, I decided to expand my horizons and took a leap into playing TM games. Although still not my favorite genre there are some excellent TM games. Argonauts Agency didn’t grab me at first but now when I see one I decide to give it a try. I found myself enjoying Chair of Hephaestus, a game that is far better than those early in the series.
Since I am not as good at playing TM games, I always choose the relaxed mode that makes the games more fun and seem less like work. I enjoy the gather resources games far more than those where I need to wait on customers, so Chair of Hephaestus fits the bill for me. I decided to wait for the standard release of the game but since I am not as good at figuring them out, I think I am going to go for the CE on this one since I enjoyed playing the game until I got stuck and couldn’t figure out what to do next.
Argonauts Agency is a game that kept me involved and having a lot of fun along the way as I worked to free Pelias from that magic chair. If you enjoy TM games or even if you want to try something new, I recommend that you try the demo to see if you will enjoy Argonauts Agency Chair of Hephaestus as well. Happy gaming!
Shadowplay Harrowstead Mystery is a terrific game that kept me engaged from the very first scene. If you love games with a creep factor, then Harrowstead Mystery if a game you will surely enjoy. At least once in the game I felt like I was going to jump out of my chair when something unexpected occurred. Surprisingly, I enjoyed this game even though I am generally not a fan of scary or horror games.
In the game you play as Thea, part of a team that is researching and writing a book about the old mining town of Harrowstead that disappeared years ago. It seems that a case of writer’s block has slowed down the project but that is about to change after you receive an urgent call from Riley. With no time to spare you rush to Riley’s location only to find that he has disappeared.
Harrowstead Mystery is a creative game with some well-designed scenes, although many of them seemed familiar and were most likely “harvested” from some of the other Shadowplay games. The graphics were good and the voiceovers left a lot to be desired. At times I found Thea’s voice grating and more than a bit annoying as she seemed to constantly vocalize the obvious. Although there is a custom mode in the game the developer has basically set the lower time limit so we can’t truly customize our skip and hint times.
I thoroughly enjoyed the HOS and the Puzzles in the game. Some of the HOS were very creative and in a couple of instances I didn’t even realize that I was playing a HO scene until the lightbulb flashed in my brain. Those scenes caught me by surprise and had me using the hint button more than once because I found them vague and I wasn’t sure what to do. Although I found those “open” scenes creative, once I figured them out, they were not my favorites in the game.
Overall, this is an enjoyable game that I did purchase because I needed to find the answers to the Harrowstead Mystery and more importantly save my friends and myself from an unthinkable alternative. For me this Shadowplay is a keeper and one that I will play again, but please try the demo to see if it is a game you will like as well. Happy gaming!
What could be better than a terrific murder mystery? The answer is, IMHO, nothing beats not only a mystery game but the kick-off to a new series. Since playing the beta for Fatal Evidence The Cursed Island earlier this week, I had no doubt that I would purchase the game as soon as it was released.
Domini Games has done such a great job with this game not only creating an excellent storyline but with the graphics that, although rich in color have been toned down from some of the intense purples and neon greens. As much as I dislike gimmicks in HOPA games, I must admit that I am enjoying the puzzles that activate use of the watch that was left to you following Judge McGregor’s death.
Speaking of Puzzles, even though I am not a huge fan, I have found that the ones in Fatal Evidence are some of the best that I have seen in recent HOPA games. Although I have seen variations of some of the puzzles previously many of them appear to be new. Because the puzzles or mini-games are so creative, it doesn’t bother me that there are almost twice as many as HOS. The HOS are far between but they too are very creative and vary in style. I particularly enjoyed the first HOS that had me changing the lamp’s lighting to find the various items. The other HOS were just as entertaining with some of them using that same mechanic where we find items in different screens or photos. Overall this is one of the best games that I’ve played this year.
Hopefully, Domini Games or other developers will create more games based on mystery than on the evil entity storylines. Fatal Evidence The Cursed Island is a wonderful mystery game where you will need to stop a crazed killer in his or her tracks as you try to figure out who it was that really killed Judge McGregor. Even though this is one of the best games I have played, as always I recommend that you try the demo to see if you will enjoy The Cursed Island as well. Happy gaming!
Chimeras Wailing Waters, the latest release in the Chimeras series, is surprisingly good. I say surprisingly because I was prepared to dislike the game, but it turned out that as I played the demo, I realized that I was wrapped up in the storyline so only stopped playing long enough to purchase the full game.
Elephant Games is a favorite game developer of mine as they always produce top quality games and Chimeras Wailing Waters is no exception. Although I found the graphics to be a bit cartoonish early in the game, they soon became much better. The one complaint I have is with the custom settings for the game that should allow us to set our own hint and skip times.
The storyline for the game is excellent which makes the game far better than many in the Chimeras series. Sadly, IMHO, no other Chimeras game has come close to Tune of Revenge however, Wailing Waters is still one of the better games in the series.
The HOS in Wailing Waters are excellent for me as I love the style that this developer uses when creating the scenes. The items are well depicted, and the scenes have variety as well as interaction required to find many of the items. The standard list style has always been my favorite for the HOS and Elephant Games has stayed with predominantly using lists for their HOS. There is an equal balance between the HOS and Puzzles, so we are not overwhelmed with finding puzzle after puzzle in order to move forward. The Puzzles are enjoyable and not the type that made me want to rip out my hair as I tried to solve them.
I’m not going to give you the game’s details but will only say that Chimeras Wailing Waters is the perfect game for me and the way I enjoy playing. We all have different things that we expect or want from games so not everyone will agree with what is only my opinion. For me Wailing Waters deserves a five-star rating because I find it enjoyable and a well-designed game. As always, please try the demo to see if Chimeras Wailing Waters is a game that you will enjoy as well. Happy gaming!
It’s been three years since my favorite game in The Secret Order series, The Buried Kingdom, was released and finally Return to The Buried Kingdom is here. I loved the original and when I played the beta for this game I knew it would be an instant purchase for me. The game does not disappoint and it is well worth the wait.
You play the game as Sarah who has been called upon by her friend Julie who needs your help. With the loss of the Mother Dragon much has changed since your last visit to the Buried Kingdom and now it faces grave danger if it is to survive. With the help of Droi, Julie, and Princess Lillian can you find out who or what is behind the unrest in the kingdom and restore it to its peaceful existence? Return to the Buried Kingdom has a wonderful well-told storyline that unfolds as you make your way through the game. The graphics are as amazing and as beautiful as I’d hoped. Everything about this game is exactly what I want in a great HOPA: a game to keep me entertained and involved as I play my way to the end.
I enjoyed the HOPS in the game far more than I did the puzzles. There was variety with both the HOPS and puzzles but nothing really stood out as being anything new or different. For me the HOPS were excellent although many were the mini type or storybook which is my least favorite. That being said the list ones were very good and I even had some difficulty finding items.
The storyline and the dragons were the best part of the game for me. I love dragons and even an adult Droi is wonderful as he accompanies me through the game and acts as a helper when needed. As I mentioned earlier the graphics are beautiful and simply add to my enjoyment of the game.
The Secret Order Return to the Buried Kingdom is a game that I highly recommend particularly if you love underwater kingdoms and dragons. This game had it all for me and I hope you will try the demo to see if you will enjoy the game as well. Happy gaming!
Haunted Legends The Call of Despair is not the most discouraging game to be released this year but it certainly runs close. Just when I thought that this developer was finally getting it together and was making its way back as a top producer of some great games, today’s game rather dashed that hope on my part. When the first Haunted Legends game was released eight years ago it earned a 4.3 star rating from gamers and it was a hit game. I personally loved that game so I was very disappointed with today’s new Haunted Legends game. I’m only hoping that if this series is to continue, there will be some fresh storylines introduced to keep us enjoying this series in the years ahead.
There is not too much to write about this game and I was raised with the adage of if you have nothing good to say then don’t say it. At this point I think I have said all there is to say about a game that exemplifies the meaning of despair. When I played the demo of the game I was surprised to find that it was no better than the beta when there could have been a lot of room for improvement before the final game was released.
The good thing about the game is the graphics that are excellent and at times quite beautiful. There is no other developer, IMHO, who can artistically render such beautiful characters in its games. I only wish that great graphics were enough to keep me wanting more but since they aren’t I decided to give this game a pass.
Had it not been for the boring and tiresome gameplay I might have taken the plunge and purchased the full game but I was simply afraid to waste money on a game that really didn’t hold any appeal for me. As always, I encourage you to try the demo and decide whether Haunted Legends The Call of Despair is a game that you will enjoy. Happy gaming!
Spirit Legends Solar Eclipse is the second game in the Spirit Legends series from Domini Games. Domini happens to be a developer whose games I generally enjoy but as with the first game in this series, Solar Eclipse fell flat for me. Okay, playing games and our reaction to them is very subjective so not everyone will feel the same about any game so there will be many who like this game but unfortunately, I am not one of them.
When I began playing Solar Eclipse, my senses were overwhelmed by the overuse of blues and purples for the graphics in the game. Domini Games loves their intense, colorful graphics and for the most part so do I but when that color palette relies on blue and purple, it simply becomes a bit too unrealistic and too much for me. Not only did I find the color palette too intense, the voices of the trolls were so irritating that I couldn’t stand to hear them.
Since Domini Games is a favorite developer who always goes the extra mile by certainly giving us value for the cost of their games, I generally purchase them without bothering with the demo. In the case of Solar Eclipse that was a huge mistake. Yes the HOS and the Puzzles are great so there is no complaint with that part of the game BUT I had to quit the game early on because I couldn’t deal with the storyline that at times made no sense, horrid voiceovers, and then there is the HUGE issue with the graphics.
As much as I enjoy fantasy type games this one simply wasn’t my cup of tea. I doubt that I will ever purchase another Spirit Legends game without trying the demo. My hope is that in their future games Domini will tone down some of their graphics so that they are a bit easier on the eyes.
What I did find excellent in the game were the puzzles and some of the HOS. The Bestiary, a spell book used to tame beasts, requires that we play mini games before each use and some of those were excellent and well-constructed. The gameplay was not always easy, and I did have to use the hint button quite frequently, in fact more often than usual. If all you want in a game is to find an abundance of puzzles with few HOS, then this is the game for you!
In the end I didn’t finish the game because the voiceovers and all those blue and purple tones were overwhelming and at times simply irritating. Even though Spirit Legends is not a game I enjoyed, I recommend that you try the demo because the game might be perfect for you. Happy gaming!
When I first played Immortal Love Bitter Awakening, I think I was a bit stressed and couldn’t seem to appreciate or get into the game, which is surprising since I absolutely love 4Friends Games and believe that everything they do is top quality. So when I went back and replayed the game today, I found out how wrong I was the first time. Sometimes it is good to replay games that don’t “click” at first because that first opinion can often change and mine absolutely did.
When playing Bitter Awakening the storyline unfolds in various HOS as we learn what caused the feud between the clans that leads to Alison and Jacob being cursed by the amulet. The game has a lot of detail and some excellent HOS along with terrific puzzles. The puzzles were at times challenging but for the most part they were easy to solve. What I enjoyed the most were the beautiful list style HOS, but I still am not a fan of the storybook type of scenes that I find boring.
In the end I have to admit that Immortal Love Bitter Awakening is most likely one of the best games in the Immortal Love series. The game has kept me entertained for hours as I worked to break the curse that has kept Jacob and Alison apart. If you happen to love fantasy type games then I highly recommend that you try Bitter Awakening as it is a game that is sure to keep you entertained for hours. I am happy that I purchased the CE version of the game and gave the game a second look because it was worth it. Happy gaming!
Elephant Games has done it again with the introduction of a new mystery game series (well, at least I hope that this will be a new series). Although not everyone will agree, I was swept away by the mechanics of the game, the storyline and the gameplay. Yes, the game might be short for some gamers but I found it to be long because there is so much to do and find in each scene. I actually like the fact that we must revisit some scenes to activate some items such as the morphing objects or collectibles.
It is so enjoyable to play a good mystery game, particularly one that keeps me thinking. Thankfully, I don’t have to encounter a demon with glowing red eyes who wants to steal my soul. It is so refreshing to have a new game, with an interesting heroine as well as new characters to meet along the way.
The HOS were creative and well-designed, but I wish there had been more of the “full” HOS than so many quick stop mini-scenes. On the other hand I loved the puzzles that were sometimes challenging. Yes, many of the puzzles were similar to those past games that I have played but I hadn’t seen them in a very long time. A puzzle that I haven’t seen in a very long time was the one where I had to move the dog silhouette tiles to the correct positions. That one took a bit of time until I got the pattern right. All in all the HOS and the Puzzles made the game excellent.
The graphics, artwork, and voiceovers were terrific and made the game come to life as I played. I play the game on PC and had no issues as far as the game crashing or freezing so it was smooth sailing all the way.
The gameplay was very good and I found the pace of the game to be just right for the way I enjoy playing. The game was an instant purchase for me and I’ve played the main game but have not yet completed the Bonus Chapter. Even though I have found this to be an excellent game, as always I recommend that you try the demo to see if Ms. Holmes: The Monster of the Baskervilles is a game you will enjoy as well.
Thank you BFG and Elephant Games for this fantastic new game. I hope to see more of Ms. Holmes in the future. Happy gaming!
