Today is a very special day - one that will finally unite you with your love. Following tradition, Prince Philip must shoot his silver arrow into the sky so that it will find the window of his intended bride. If luck, the fates, and perhaps some skill are on your side, the silver arrow will land in your window and tomorrow you will return it to Prince Philip at your wedding. You are indeed the chosen one since the silver arrow has found you. Ah, but alas, there is an evil sorcerer at work who will use his powers to see that someone else becomes the prince’s chosen bride, and as soon as the arrow lands in your room the sorcerer, Basil, appears and steals it from you. Now you and Philip must work to retrieve the arrow so this is where your adventure begins.
ERS – what more needs to be said about the graphics! The development team at ERS was the first to bring us lip-synced voice overs with their Shadow Wolf series many years ago and they have continued to bring us some of the best sound packages possible with their games.
Now I need to ask “what’s going on here?” I get the distinct feeling that this is a twin to another game in the Spirits series and that maybe ERS started out with a story in the previous game but changed tracks and left this one sitting on the shelf. The bunny team has definitely recycled the artwork and characters, and that’s not a problem for me but it does give the game a stamp of déjà vu. We know that Mortis has been hanging out for centuries along with nanny, the prince, and the sorcerer whose name has been changed to protect the not so innocent.
So, back to the current game where you have a diary that contains story notes, your objectives and a section that includes the various recipes you will need to concoct during your adventure. There is an interactive transportable map that indicates where you have objectives to complete. Early in the game you receive a gift from your beloved, a critter called a lingbeast, who seems to be a furry version of Dr. Doolittle who can speak to the animals.
There are various types of interactive HOS, including those where you must replace items into the scene, the progressive silhouette, and the old standby - find the matching pairs by association type. What I didn’t encounter during the demo was the standard list type HOS. I also didn’t see an option to skip the HOS which is something we have in some of the newer ERS games, again more proof that perhaps this game has been on the shelf for a while. Although some of the puzzles seem fairly standard with nothing exceptional or too different, some can be tricky. The puzzles I did run into, although not overly difficult, did have some challenge.
Throughout the game you will find pearls that translate into coins that can be used to repair the run-down tower that you’ve inherited. The remainder of the CE content is standard fare with nothing exceptional in the package.
Well, no bones about it, ERS is my favorite developer and they have yet to make a game that I don’t like. Every game they bring to market is ultimately very enjoyable. Yes, some of you may find that they are predictable but I still find their games challenging and full of great gameplay. The imagination that the ERS team brings to their games is what keeps me coming back year after year. Not all of you will agree, but I hope that you will at least give the demo a fair shot to see if this is a game you might like.
I recommend this game!

As the story begins we see a cutscene where preparations are underway for your wedding to a local young scientist in Tideville named Tim. Things quickly change when your fiancé’s mother is poisoned by a mad scientist who is trying to persuade Tim to help him complete his work to develop a perpetual energy source. If Tim agrees then the scientist will give Tim the antidote to save Clarice’s life. Of course, Tim refuses and is then kidnapped by the scientist; so now it is time for you to take the reins to save Clarice and rescue Tim.
The graphics are generally good hand-drawn art but the characters seem cartoonish. IMHO, the game seems to lack the polish that some other notable developers have in their games. There are lip-synced voiceovers and, if you read my reviews, you know I consider that a plus. Overall the sound package is very good and I like the environmental sounds such as the purring cat that adds a touch to the realism of the game.
You have a diary that contains information you gather on your journey, as well as an interactive map that shows where you have a task to complete. Shortly into the game you will find a jeweled dragonfly that will be very helpful in certain situations.
The HOPs are interactive list type but are jammed with tons of items to sort through to find what you need. The plus is that you can switch back and forth between the HOP and a match-3 game if you get tired of sifting through the junkpile. The puzzles seem simple and very easy so there is nothing new or challenging on the puzzle front. It feels like the puzzles were just thrown in to make the game a bit more interesting.
Because Whispered Secrets Into the Beyond is actually fun to play and because I was hooked on finding those danged observers, I purchased the CE. All in all even though Into the Beyond is far from being a five-star game it is certainly entertaining and enjoyable. As always, I recommend that you try the demo first to see if this is a game you will enjoy.

As the story begins you and your sister are traveling through the forest in a coach and she is telling you that several young women who are her age have been kidnapped while traveling on this very same road. Suddenly a wild cat attacks the carriage and your sister is kidnapped. As you seek to find your sister you come upon a lamb trapped in brambles and once you free the lamb Marianne appears to tell you the story of the crooked man. In order to save your sister, you must defeat the crooked man and this is where your exciting adventure begins.
The graphics are exceptional as we would expect from Blue Tea Games. The artwork is stunning and gorgeous AND not as glaringly busy as they were in one previous game from this developer. The sound package is also another plus and I found it to be top-notch in every way. I was hooked on the Blue Tea's games years ago and have found that their games are consistently good.
Shortly after beginning the game and as a reward for saving her little lamb, Marianne will appear and give you a magical, interactive map. Apparently, there are certain times that the map will not allow you to transport but that is intentional and the SG explains why this happens.
One of the things I noticed early on in the game is that there seem to be fewer FROGs and far more puzzles which is something I love. The puzzles are great and seem a bit different than the standard fare we have come to expect. Some of the puzzles are more difficult than I expected and I found the first one to be a challenge. In my experience, games generally start out with the puzzles being simple and progress in difficulty as the game moves forward, but with Cursery we get a tricky puzzle minutes into the game which is something that I really liked.
Cursery: The Crooked Man and The Crooked Cat is an outstanding game, and in the beginning the game reminded me of the Red Riding Hood Sisters – one of my favorite games from Blue Tea. The CE version of this game was an instant purchase for me and I loved it and I am certain that the SE will be very good but without some of the bling factor of the CE. I thoroughly enjoyed this game but recommend that you try it to see if you agree. Congratulations to the team at Blue Tea Games for another exceptional game.
I recommend this game!

What would you do if your beloved husband was suffering from a mysterious paranormal disturbance? I am sure you would do what Renee did and send him to the Alps where a physician renowned for curing these types of disturbances has a clinic. Maybe that was a mistake because Renee soon receives a letter from Alfred telling her that their marriage is over. Since Alfred didn’t sound like himself, Renee enlists your aid to get to the bottom of the mystery. You immediately recognize the name of Professor Swens and know that he works for the Seekers Brotherhood, an organization you have done battle with in the past. Could it be that you are in over your head this time. Fortunately, not is all that it seems and you do have some help. Will you be able to survive the mind invasion and Dr. Swen’s attempts to turn you into a member of the Seekers?
The graphics are good but not as crisp as I like. They seem a bit old style in comparison with those in some of the more recent games that have been released. That being said they are still nice but a bit washed out. The sound package is okay but again there is nothing outstanding.
You have a diary that keeps the progress of the story as you move through the game and there is also a transporter style map that is located close to your hint button.
Where “Mind Invasion” becomes an excellent game is with the variety in the HOS. Rather than all being the standard list type they are varied, and some are almost like puzzles. I found that I really liked the variation in the HOS and found them fun to get through to earn my reward. The same with the game’s puzzles, many of them were different than what we normally see. Some puzzles did present a bit of challenge but I didn’t find them so difficult that they were frustrating.
Throughout the game you will find 31 collectible walking canes (they all have interesting handles so take the time to look at them). There are also achievements to be earned but that is about it as far as CE content. Of course, there is the usual CE fluff but no wallpapers. Overall the game has nothing spectacular for CE content, except that you can replay the mini-games, but for many of you it may not be worth the extra cost.
“Agency of Anomalies Mind Invasion’ is a unique and very interesting game because of the puzzles and the HOS. I found the story intriguing. “Mind Invasion” is a game I want to continue playing so I am off to hit the buy button. The developers have created a game that is interesting, challenging and a lot of fun. As always, I recommend that you at least try the demo to see if you agree that this is a great game and one well-worth adding to your collection.
I recommend this game!

As the game begins we see a cutscene of a farmer who crashes his tractor and is soon enveloped by a thick fog. As an inspector for Scotland Yard, you are called in to investigate when you also encounter the fog and crash your vehicle. You soon come to realize that the strange, foreboding fog is indeed changing the area and you must find a way to stop it. As you move through this entertaining adventure you will travel through forests and mythical castles, all while meeting some interesting creatures who will help you along the way.
The graphics are very colorful and crisp with lovely hand drawn artwork that enhances the beautiful fantasy setting for the game. Even though the graphics do appear a bit cartoonish, they are still very, very good. The game has voice overs and lip-syncing, but one of the things I found annoying was the long, drawn out slow speech of some characters. Some of the spoken dialogue was snail-pace slow and it drove me nuts. The musical score is nice and I didn’t find it too overpowering, at least I didn’t turn the music off as I sometimes do when playing a game.
Your journal and interactive map are located on the bottom left of your screen. The map shows where tasks are available and also where they have been completed. With a lot of back and forth going on in this game, the transporter type map proved to be extremely useful and a big time saver. The strategy guide and hint button are on the lower right of the screen.
Since this is a HOPA game we have the requisite junkpile HOS, some of them extremely overcrowded. Along with the HOS there are lots of puzzles to be solved and some of them can be tricky. Finally we have a game where the puzzles are not the same old run-of-the mill, type puzzles as some of them are quite different. A few of the puzzles require a good deal of dexterity to complete and those are the ones I struggled with the most. I loved the fact that I had to really think about how to solve some of the puzzles because they were a challenge.
The storyline is a bit too familiar, with an evil wizard escaping his eternal prison to wreak havoc upon the world. That being said, it is still a lovely game with lots of entertainment value. Some of you may find it the same old thing so I recommend that you try the demo to see if Road of the Kings is a game you will enjoy.
I recommend this game!

In a move that is so uncharacteristic of your uncle Ebenezer, he sends you a letter at Christmas, asking you to come see him. Ebenezer tells you that he has been having strange visions and he feels “the breath of death like never before”. He has no one else to turn to for help and implores you to come to see him as quickly as possible. When you arrive at his home you find Uncle Ebenezer in a deep sleep. Soon the clock strikes midnight and you encounter the “ghost of Christmas Past” who tells you that it is not too late to save your uncle but to do so you must change the events of the past. Will you be able to fight off the “bad” Scrooge and change your uncle’s heart and life before it is too late? Enjoy this awesome Christmas adventure as you try to undo the past and put things right.
The graphics are beautiful – sometimes crisp and clear but at other times with a misty appearance. I love the music and the entire sound package in a Christmas Carol. I actually turned the music adjustment up because the background music is so wonderful and I wanted to hear it as I played. IMHO, I would have purchased the game for the soundtrack alone!
Although I didn’t find a diary or journal residing near the bottom of my screen, we do find various notes and diary pages as we progress through the game. There is an interactive transporter type map which I found very helpful since there is a lot of back and forth during the adventure.
The HOS are the standard interactive list type with some items being difficult to find since they are either extremely well hidden or very tiny. The mini puzzles, at least the ones I encountered before stopping to write this review, are fairly standard being the scenario type that the mammoth team loves to create for their games. I personally don’t care for this type of puzzle but have to admit that they were fun and a bit different.
A Christmas Carol has all the CE goodies we could possibly ask for and then more. I’m not going to go into all the CE content because most of us already know what that includes but I will say that this is a game worthy of being a CE.
Last year when “The Nutcracker” was released for the holidays, the game took my breath away it was so wonderful and gorgeous. I have been waiting for another Christmas game from the Elephant and here it is – a wonderful version of rendition of the Charles Dickens’ classic – A Christmas Carol. I knew from the get go the game would be wonderful and I purchased it immediately – no need to wait for a sale because I had to get my hands on this game NOW. As always, I recommend that you try the game to see if it is right for you. It happens every so often when I wish that we had the ability to give ten stars – this is one of those games where I would happily give the max. Thank you to the teams at Elephant Games and BFG for a wonderful Christmas game – kudos to all of you for A Christmas Carol!!
I recommend this game!

Our adventure begins as you are looking out the window at what seems to be the longest winter you can remember when suddenly you hear a voice behind you. You turn to see Vesna the Goddess of Spring who appears in your mirror and tells you that she has been kidnapped by Morana the Goddess of Winter who is turning the world to a land of ice and snow. You play the game as the Child of Spring, the only one who can stop Morana and return warmth to the world. Vesna sends you on a quest to find a wise old woman Baba Yaga who lives in a hut in the distant forest but she can only send you as far as the village gates. After that, you must rely upon your instincts and Vesna’s animal friends to help you on your quest. As she leaves you at the gates, Vesna hands you a magic Spring Brush that will help you on your journey.
Early into the game you rescue an Ermine who becomes your pet and helper. Yes, you have a pet helper that you get to name but don’t despair if you have reached your limit with overly cute animals being added to games, because your Ermine friend does prove to be useful and will assist you when you need it most. As you move through your adventure you also meet many other animals, some of them friendly and useful but others not so much who are only there to hinder you along the way. There were many comments by others about the scenes that depicted some animal cruelty and I agree. IMHO, those were unnecessary and the developer could have been more sensitive to our animal friends and done things in a kinder manner.
The graphics are excellent being very colorful and crisp but after a while I became tired of the endless winter. As is becoming the case with Eipix games the sound package is very good including lip-synced voiceovers, excellent music and environmental sounds.
You have a diary that contains your objectives as well as your notes that will help you as you progress on your adventure. The interactive transporter map that indicates where you have tasks to accomplish is located on the lower right of your screen next to the hint flower. The magic Spring Brush that you receive from Vesna at the beginning of the game lives across the top of your inventory box. Be sure to watch for areas where you can use the brush because if it very helpful at times, but after using the brush to thaw ice, I received a ludicrous group of flowers and a rainbow as my reward. I have no idea why the developer used that technique but I felt that it detracted from the game.
There are various types of interactive HOS, some are the standard list type and others are silhouette type. If you would rather play a match 3 game rather than look for items on the list, you have that option as well. During the demo there were not as many puzzles as there were HOS, and I prefer a game that is just the opposite – more puzzles than HOS but that is not the case with Stolen Spring. The few puzzles I did encounter were very easy and there was hardly any challenge.
In my review of Myths of the World Stolen Spring CE I gave it five-stars, but found that after the demo the game became tedious with way too many HOS and some overly simple puzzles that someone in kindergarten could solve. Yes I did buy the CE and now could kick myself because it really was nothing special. Although I initially liked the game, after playing it I have to say that it can’t hold a candle to The Chinese Healer. As always, I recommend that you try the game to see if you like it.
I recommend this game!

Our story begins as you (the queen) tell a bedtime story to a young child. You tell the child that when you were eighteen your father went on a long sea voyage, and then he arrived at a castle that seemed to be abandoned so he went inside. Once inside the castle he found a beautiful gilded cage with a nightingale and, thinking the bird was abandoned, your father took the bird and brought it home to you. Well it turns out that a beast was living in the castle and he was infuriated by the theft of his bird so he gave your father an ultimatum – your father must either give you to the beast by midnight or become a slave to the beast for the rest of his life. Of course your father grabs the bird and heads for his boat, but as he is rowing to his ship a beautiful ring lands in the boat and that is where your adventure truly begins.
As with all ERS games the graphics are beautiful, colorful and crisp. There are fanciful creatures and critters that are wonderful, with everything from fairies to witches and a wicked beast. Fantasy games and fairy tales are where ERS excels and Queen’s Tales is no exception.
The interactive HOS are both silhouette and list. Of course, the silhouette HOS are the progressive type where you need find an object and then use it to find another until you ultimately receive the item you will need on your journey. The puzzles are a bit different and some of them may seem difficult, but for the most part they are not so challenging that they become frustrating.
Since I am a huge ERS fan, it goes without saying that I really enjoyed this game. The team at ERS knows how to put together a game that holds my attention, tells a great story, and is always visually appealing. Queen’s Tales the Beast and Nightingale is no exception because I was drawn in from the very beginning of the story and captivated throughout the game with all that there is to see and do. Queen’s Tales is another great game from my favorite developer. I purchased the CE without hesitation and enjoyed every minute of the adventure. I am sure the SE version of the game will be as excellent as the CE version. As always, I recommend that you try the game for yourself.
I recommend this game!

Detective, you have been called to the scene of one of your previous cases Fate’s Carnival, where you will meet the ghosts of some favorite or maybe not so favorite characters from the past. When you meet the ghost of Madame Fate she tells you that her old curse is now yours. Will you be able to solve the mystery of Fate’s Carnival and release the souls imprisoned by the Dark Sorcerer - Alister Dalimar?
With BFG turning over the development of Fate’s Carnival to Elephant Games we have top-notch, gorgeous graphics. And a big hooray, it is so wonderful to note that the devs at Elephant Games have now given us lip-synced voiceovers that elevate this game to a whole new level. I found the entire sound package to be excellent and it really added to the overall spookiness of Fate’s Carnival.
Very soon after you begin the game you will find the Black Diary that is a bit different from the typical diary that we usually have in games. Because there are so many unique facets to the game, I don’t want to say more and spoil your fun but will only say that your diary is certainly more than meets the eye. The MCF Case File located on the left of your screen is where you can access the Shop and other parts of the bonus content but most importantly, it is where you will find your interactive transportable map.
The interactive HOS are primarily the list type and I found it very hard to find some items as they are so well hidden. but that just adds to the fun and creates more challenge. As far as the puzzles are concerned there is nothing really new but some of them can be challenging such as with the scenario type puzzles, which quite frankly I hate but others are more fun.
In the CE content you will be able to collect twenty special cards that will allow you to play solitaire upon completion of the game. You also can collect twelve morphing bobble-head dolls, all characters from the previous MCF games. Then you will also come across old pounds to collect that can be used in the shop. Aside from the collectibles there are achievements to be earned and morphing objects galore. A secret room is also included in the bonus content and it can be accessed only after completing the game plus the bonus chapter. Wow, truly a great CE value and well worth the price.
After the last several MCF games I was swore I would never try another one. But I am so impressed with Fate’s Carnival, which takes me back to what I loved about the original MCF games, that I purchased the game right away. I think it was a good idea to turn the franchise over to Elephant Games who did an incredible job of bringing us an update on the Madame Fate story. Although creepy carnivals are not something I enjoy, I loved this game. It was so visually appealing and the gameplay was great. I must admit there were several times that I actually jumped because something unexpected happened. Although I’m more a fan of the fairy tale or fantasy type games, Fate’s Carnival captured my attention from the very first scene. I guess we all need a spooky, creepy game for a change of pace – even me. As always, I recommend that you at least try the demo to see if this is a game you will like.
I recommend this game!

As an investigative reporter you have been called to a coastal Greek village to investigate the mysterious circumstances in the death of a sculptor Elias Kostas and his wife Maria who were found encased in plaster in his studio. Seemingly it was a horrific accident but Dr. Alexander, who called you, knows the truth and needs your help to prove that this was murder. As the body count mounts up, will you be able to solve the case or will you be the next victim?
The graphics are very good but not always as crisp as I like. The artwork is lovely and does justice to the coastal Greek village setting. There are voiceovers with lip/sync that are generally very good with the exception of one character who speaks so slowly, I wanted to drag the words out of his mouth. The music and ambient sounds are very good and I found the music quite enjoyable. In fact, this is one of the few games where I will enjoy the extra soundtracks that are included with the CE content.
You have a diary located on the lower left of your screen that, unfortunately, lights up with streaming sparkles every time you collect a note which I found extremely annoying. I found myself constantly opening the diary just to make the lights go away. The compass located next to your diary is the interactive map that shows where there is a task available. Shorty into the game you will acquire a feline helper who will be able to reach areas that you cannot. I know some of you hate furry little helpers in a game but give this one a chance because it is cute and you won’t find it annoying in the end.
There are various types of HOS including the interactive list type and the progressive silhouette type. Most of the HOS were done well but in some of the early HOS I had a difficult time locating the items since the scenes were cluttered and the items seemed to fade into the background. The puzzles in Blood and Sand, although somewhat familiar, are good with many of them being fairly easy; however, there are some that are sticklers and a bit tricky.
Dark Canvas Blood and Stone is a very nice game that had the misfortune to be released right after one of the most outstanding games we have seen this year and, as a result, it pales in comparison. The game’s storyline is a bit different than the usual fare and is interesting enough that when the demo ended I wanted more. Blood and Stone is not one of the best games in recent months but it is better than most. I found Blood and Sand to be an entertaining game and recommend that you at least try the demo.
I recommend this game!
