I just finished this game more because I hate leaving things unfinished rather than because I was enjoying it. I felt I should have enjoyed this more but there were bits about it that just didn't gel.
While the overall graphics were absolutely beautiful and evocative of Venice, I couldn't understand why the graphics got grainier in the HOS. This made them a little bit of a strain at times and detracted from their enjoyment.
The storyline was also flimsy throughout but then finished quite quickly with a creepiness in the last scene that didn't tie up with the beauty of the scenes that went before.
Some of the mini-games were too easy and I often found that when stuck Hints didn't help or even, in one case, pointed at the wrong thing! I had to resort to the Walkthrough Guide at that point.
In conclusion, I won't be rushing out to purchase any more in this series.
This was one of the very best games I have bought. I enjoyed almost every aspect of it though I did get lost going back and forth through the town and had to resort a few times to Hints in order to tell me which building or place to head to next.
The story was quite involving and required you to pay attention and make deductions about the case on the evidence wall. This was an unusual and engaging aspect to the game.
The graphics and animations were very good and the game lasted a satisfyingly long time.
I have never bothered to write a review before, but found this game so fantastic that I had to write a recommendation for others. I think the graphics were the most beautiful I have seen in any game. Pause and take a look at all the intricate background details and the colours and patterns on even the smallest of objects.
The story was mysterious without being grim, the music pretty and the HO scenes had more of a purpose as you were looking for pieces of specific objects, rather than just checking off a list of random, pointless things that don't fit in the scene.
It also was great value for money as it lasted a long time but remained addictive and engaging.
