Wonderful time, loved the game. Anyone who has read (or seen) Stephen King's "Catseye" will recognize the format - three short stories linked by a single theme. In this case it's lost souls, whose saving will earn you a boat ride off a very unpleasant island. The first of these is a Roaring Twenties gangster theme, somewhat underutilized in this genre, IMHO; the second, a rather quirky Old West scenario in which a young lady is to be burnt as a witch #no points for historical accuracy, full marks for fun#, and the third, a rather vivid pirate scenario.
Pros: great graphics, convincing #and not overdone# acting, atmospheric music, clear objectives and a plot that hangs together well despite its segmentation. Decent length of play, and due to the segmentation the player always knows where he or she is.
Cons: not much. Some may be bothered by the fact that the stories have nothing to do with one another; I found that rather refreshing.
Overall - a clear winner for me. I'd love to see more of this sort of treatment. Five fins of five.
A new breed of virus has spread throughout the City of Oxford. You must search the city for a missing girl who holds the key to stopping the global epidemic!
The Pros: Excellent, linear, coherent writing. HO scenes yielded objects that were directly related to the plot. Excellent live and voice acting, atmospheric music. Best of all, the difficulty level could be tuned. That is a feature I think a lot of games will pick up very soon. One character, Carl the Homeless Guy, was a hoot.
The Cons: puzzles were very easy. Some HO graphics were a little indistinct.
More Pros: I loved the "Behind The Scenes" extra. And the kid who did the little girl's voice acting was great.
What a wonderful surprise! The elements of the game are conventional: village emptied by some disaster, the player has to go figure it out. The execution, however, was extraordinary, and there were a couple of innovations that were worth the price of the game by themselves.
Beautiful art - that was the deciding factor in my initial purchase. Lovely music, reasonably coherent plot, sympathetic characters. Mini-games seemed just the right level of difficulty. Smooth gameplay, excellent map.
What set this one apart were the wonderfully executed statues and the animated helpers who were more ally than gadget. Multiple endings that encourage a replay. Overall, simply a superior example of its genre and highly recommended.
