I beta tested this one. It was so bad I had trouble even finishing it. Checked it out now and nope, they hadn't changed a thing.
I don't understand WHY they base a game on a book to attract buyers, then totally ignore the time period. I wasn't crazy about the pop in characters, but I could have put up with them if only they hadn't used modern slang. Should have kept to just quoting the book. This reads like someone did a book report from only seeing a bad movie. Game play is nothing special, hate when they only put a few objects at a time in the list, especially when there was so much space they could have used.
You will probably get to the end of the demo before your hour is up. It doesn't get better. I have no idea why they made this game!

Graphics are ok. Storyline is typical find your daughter with a not-so-surprising ending that felt tacked on. The rest was obscure and really didn't explain much. Some puzzles weren't so much puzzling as frustrating, since you had to position your cursor exactly right, at the right speed or it would kick you out to start over. Although you couldn't pick items up until you needed them, the hand icon would appear. I had to use hints on what to do next a LOT, and I don't like that. However the hints were good, you would see an inset screen with the solution circled. Way too much back and forth between locations.
Obviously not originally in English and poor translation. Words in the hidden object searches were usually ok, if not correct you could at least figure them out. This probably accounts for the clue being a wrench, out of six wrenches in the scene, only one was the right one. That kind of thing happened several times. If you are going to sell the game to English speaking people, find a decent translator. Sheesh.
Creepy Crawler Alert: Very high.
I liked the demo, but by about half way through I was bored. Wish I hadn't wasted my money on this one. With a little more work and planning this would have been a good game.

Don't know if it was the fact I was pretty brain dead from bottle feeding kittens every two hours, but I found this one really challenging. I often got stuck about where to go next, and all the to and fro got me constantly lost (lack of sleep seems to mess up my virtual sense of direction). There is an interactive map, but I didn't discover it until the end! However I was saved from having to consult a walkthrough by that lovely little hint button which tells you which direction to go if you are finished in that room.
Since I am a big mystery novel fan, the traumatic deaths didn't bother me much, but if you dislike messy deaths, it's a good idea to trial test this. The death on a train one even made me cringe a bit. Not that there is excessive blood and gore, I just have a vivid imagination.
I really like the main storyline of a house full of people who zap around in a portable mansion, rescuing ghosts. There is a second one out already, and if it's as good as the first it will be a definite buy. Honestly with that basic plot line this could have as many serials as a TV show. I'm good with that, especially if they developed the house residents characters along the way.
I recommend this game!

I rarely buy a game without doing a trial because I play on a laptop and I have been caught before by bad sequels. But the reviews and the first game made this a gotta-grab-this-now game. I actually love it slightly more than the first one, although I prefer gardens to mansions. What makes it for me is the humor, attention to detail and bottom line, it's just plain FUN! I finished the original and immediately replayed. Same with Farmscapes. While the H0Gs aren't terribly challenging it's still fun to see what changes and what you can interact with. Along with the puppy, you have a songbird to interact with. I was impressed that they even had a tiny bird shadow when it came in to land, besides the generic auto generated shadow. Yeh, I know, but I'm an artist and have some idea of how much work goes into the tiny details.
You do go to the same rooms over and over. But even though you might be finding the same item, it will be in a different place, and often a different graphic for it. The mini challenges broke it up into nice bite size bits. I hope this means there will be another Farmscape! LOVE THESE GAMES!!!!!!

This isn't my favorite scary campfire story, so I didn't come prepared to love it. But the demo was nice, and it was the leap year special sooooo...
I liked what they did with the story. Made it creepier and more interesting. While it had a finished ending, it left room for a sequel, which I would love. Outside of the overdone bit of smoke or sunlight blurring the picture, and a ton of back and forthing, I have no complaints, and those are minor. This was a great game for me, had to use hints to figure out where I was to go next on occasion, but didn't need a walk through and didn't have any puzzles I had to skip. A couple of shoot the target games were annoying but I could win them even with my hand eye coordination problems. Could have improved the visibility on steering the boat though! Would have been happy with it at full game club price, so I'm delighted!
Ghosts are the scariest thing that happens, no vampires, werewolves or zombies. Spiders were kept to a minimum and I don't remember any snakes. Lightning flashes in some scenes, but not regular enough to give problems unless you are very sensitive.
A good solid 5 star game. Hope the others in this series are as good.
I decided to buy this game before I even got all the way through the trial. Think of Dark Shadows with the intentional wackiness of the Adams Family and Faulty Towers mixed together. If you are a fan of those vintage shows, you will probably love this one even more, however, the game certainly stands by itself just fine.
It isn't so much H0G and puzzles as just tripping merrily though a virtual reality filled with perfectly normal people who just happen to be ghosts and vampires. It really is a story, with fun characters and creepy sets. Got this at the DD price but I would pay standard prices happily for it. I want MORE! I was disappointed when it ended. Hey, I think I will just play it again...wheeee!
Right up to the end, I would have given this game 5 stars. All of a sudden you have time limits. The end itself felt just sort of slapped on. Normally the timer issue would have made me give just one star, but honestly this game was good enough, kept me interested enough to still rate 4 stars. They could have used better basic instructions on the puzzle mini games, it's not difficult though.
Yes, the fairy's inane comments and voice did get very annoying since she says the same thing over and over and over....
Really had fun with this one, as I can't play the timed games, and this one doesn't end when the time runs out,, you just don't get your bonus building. You can always go back and replay to improve your time. I love Ancient Egypt, so I had to test this, and I'm glad I did! Plus the history was correct as far I played, which is a big plus for me. They also picked a time in Egypt's history that was extremely interesting. You can also interact with the wildlife, which I enjoy.
I didn't even make it through the demo. I got as far as the map, couldn't find the piece that wasn't right, realized I was more annoyed than entertained and quit.
First of all, it was timed. Even though as far as I played it was easy, I don't care for timed games, and it seemed pointless.
It came up with a big black border around it, even on Full Screen. The graphics were clear enough, but tiny.
There was a long side bar for the list, but during the time I played it was never full. The last three items showed up one by one.
The music repeated so much that I hit mute after a few minutes of play.
It was just too easy for me, boring and annoying. The graphics are the best part. I really liked the pacifist yeti, just not enough to buy it even at the DD price. Enough people loved it that I would say this is a definite Try Before Buy game.
