To be honest, I'm a little tired of HOG lately, because there's a significant lack of innovation in the games BF released in the last months.
But this one was really nice. Nicely drawn scenes, pleasant and unobtrusive music, and mini-games that are hard enough to be challenging, but easy enough to avoid frustration. ;)
I liked the details in the HO scenes where you could have a closer look (i.e. into a box or under a basket) to find some of the items on the list.
So yes, I would recommend this game.
I recommend this game!

I really love the Farm Frenzy series, so I bought Vampires vs. Zombies after playing the demo. The artwork is lovely and the characters so funny, nice sound, nice cartoon style.
But what happened to the gameplay?
1) The gameplay is ultra-slow. The vampires are moving so slowly, as does the car that takes the goods to the market, as does the supplier that delivers goods you need to produce the final products.
When I played the demo I thought things would accelerate a bit when I buy the upgrades later on, but I was wrong. Even with the highest upgrade the car and market are hardly faster than without any upgrade.
So basically, you spend most of the time waiting for the car and/or the supplier.
2) this is the hardest time management game I ever played in my whole life (and boy, did I play many time management games!). I managed to get gold on only a handful of levels, the rest is silver or - more often - nothing.
That's neither funny nor challenging, it's frustrating, nothing else!
3) when I finished the game (with miserable results), I wanted to replay certain levels, but what was that? You can't re-do levels after you've finished the game!
The only way to replay levels is before the last level. After you finished it, the game starts over on level 1.
Despite the funny, cute look and vampire/zombie characters, I can't recommend this game.
I don't recommend this game.

Generally, I consider the MCF series as absolutely outstanding and exceptional in the HOG section. So it was no question whether to buy "Escape from Ravenhurst" (EFR) or not.
I bought it and - boy! - was I impressed!
Before EFR, I liked "Dire Grove" the most out of all MCF games. The complex story, the high-class music/sound, the videos with real actors, the backgrounds, the morphing objects, everything was a re-invention of not only the series itself, but of the whole HOG genre. I thought it couldn't get any better.
But then came "EFR". From the first moment I knew that the developers somehow managed to push the series even further.
The atmosphere: super-spooky. I was so terrified with all the screaming and crying, the dark and incredibly sad childhood, the grim cold, and the scary villain that shivers ran down my spine from the very first beginning until the very and. And I loved every second of my goose-bumps! ;)
The story itself really gripped me and I liked the fact that you learn something about Charles' motifs.
I was so impressed by the villain's messages that I looked the actor up. Dennis Kleinsmith is the perfect choice, his eyes have something evil and equally sad. Absolutely loved his play.
Music and sound effects are exceptional as always, and the scenes and backgrounds are beautifully drawn.
I understand that the game can be disappointing for some players, though.
If you don't like morphing objects, you probably gonna hate this game.
Personally, I liked this feature (that's one reason why "Dire Grove" is my no. 1), although I would've preferred a mixture of "classic" HO scenes and MO scenes.
Also, some of the riddles were really tough cookies so I had to look the solution up.
But overall, "EFR" could've managed to unthrone "Dire Grove" and become my new No. 1, if the end wouldn't have come so suddenly.
When I finally opened the last door, I was expecting another gripping level with MO scenes and riddles and wanted to save this last level for the next day. So I quit the game to come back the next morning.
But when I returned, I must realise that the only thing to do behind the last door is turning off the machine! What a let-down!
That was way too abrupt for me!
Although the bonus games play (finding more morphing objects in the casebook) was a nice extra, I can't make "EFR" my new No. 1 because of that sudden end.
But of course, I would recommend it at any time. MCF has set new standards in the HOG section, every game is close to perfect. So even when a MCF part is not as good as the others, it still is an absolutely outstanding HOG!
My resume: if you don't love morphing objects, move on. But if you love morphing objects, buy it, buy it, buy it! :)
I recommend this game!
