Not one of the best Nancy Drew games I've ever played. This game was different. It's based in Nancy's hometown and Nancy is given a note to show up at this location. Once there, the place starts burning to the ground. When you exit, instead of people asking if you're all right, etc, you are immediately accused of having caused the fire.
Other areas of incredulity for me were that the chief of police expects you to gather your own proof of innocence on his suspect board and call him when you're done proving someone else did this. HUH?
Also, the puzzles were not difficult and I disliked switching character to character to complete objectives.
The map for driving around was too large and you had to scroll around. Every time you hopped in the car you had to watch the video of you driving around. The first time it's ok. After that, it's redundant.
Normally these games are my brain teaser. Occasionally I even have to refer to a walkthrough to get thru a difficult portion. Not this game.
In addition, Nancy Drew games are normally a learning experience about a people or location or objects, etc. This game had no learning involved. I was surprised by this.
It's a game I had to play as I own almost every game to this point.
I recommend this game!

I rarely review unless I've purchased a game, but I really had to review this based on the demo. No voiceovers. Grainy, junkpile HOS (hidden object scenes). No interaction with those scenes. Once you're in an HOS, you're committed as it won't let you back out. The HOS are repetitive in that the same objects you've found before are there next time you visit the scene. Interesting story line. The SG was not accessible during the demo at any time that I've found. Lots of running around. The girl you first encounter looks different from cutscene to cutscene. ? different artists? Weird. Also, I noticed that even the HOS vary alot in their lighting/appearance, and ability to find objects. You need specific tools for jobs and once you use most of them they disappear. No widescreen. No map. This game was really not my cup of tea.

I really liked this game. It was long and had a great storyline. Very few "hidden object" scenes in which you had to find 10 of these or match up objects. The built in strategy guide even kept pace with you so that you didn't have to turn the pages at all! The graphics were kinda grainy but I loved how the world looked different as you progressed in the game. Lots to see and do. Achievements galore. Fairies to find. It's dark in a different way. I liked it! My only complaints were the graphics being a little grainy and therefore difficult to find the objects, lack of voiceovers except for the narrator occasionally, and the misclick penalty. Have fun!
I recommend this game!

I liked this game. Took me approximately 3 hours to complete, bonus game included. I am a fast player. The graphics were great and I had no trouble seeing things or seeing what needed to be done. There was a bit of footwork in this game, not to mention frequent stops for HOS. However, the storyline was intriguing. The voiceover was pretty good, but the music left a little to be desired on my end. I turned it down. The puzzles were fairly easy but a couple slowed me down. I recommend you try it!

I liked this game. A little too many HOS for my taste, but otherwise, a great game. The puzzles were anywhere from mildly difficult to downright brain teasing. The various places I visited during my adventure were well drawn, and sometimes included FROG's! So a little of this and a little of that. Adventure, HOS, FROG, and puzzling genius. The HOS were interactive and sometimes the items were difficult to find. The map was helpful as was the notebook on what you still needed to do. I didn't require a walkthrough but one would have been nice for some people as well as for some HOS due to the interaction being very specific. No voiceovers anywhere. The storyline (except for the opening scenes) were skippable. Have fun and enjoy!
I recommend this game!

What fun this game was! Unique gameplay in the way the bonus content was so integrated that I'm unsure how this game would play out without it. The puzzles were mildly difficult. The HOS were nicely drawn and not too difficult. The FROG portions were difficult to find sometimes as were the coins. I think they could have used a little more definition in areas. The gameplay was really nice and long. I think I played for abou 5.5 hours or maybe less. I lost track of time and became absorbed and even said, "One more area before I go to bed." :) Worth the price of admission!
I recommend this game!

Not a new concept: stuck investigating an asylum you have no memory of getting to. However, the game was pretty thrilling and scary at times and really drew you in. This being said, I did purchase the game. The whole game had wonderful graphics and rarely did the music/voiceovers make me annoyed, except the volume appeared to vary greatly from scene to scene. The HOS were very plentiful and some of them had small items. I disliked that the HOS were repetitive and that some of the objects I had removed earlier suddenly reappeared. The puzzles were too easy. However, determining where to go and what to do could be a challenge at times. I would have liked a map. The strategy guide was unique in that it showed you where you should be and highlighted areas you still needed to complete. Mine had a small glitch and kept showing me an area I had already completed. The game took me approx 3 hours to complete, and the bonus game was of decent length but didn't add much to the overall story.
If you like lots of HOS and a suspenseful game, this is for you.
I recommend this game!

Cartoon like but clear graphics. Decent length, as it took me about 2 1/2 or 3 hours to complete the game. The game is a mix of hidden object and adventure. The HOS have areas of interaction. The problem comes in that the hint button doesn't tell you what to do with the object you need to interact with and if you do figure it out, you wind up second guessing yourself because it will only accept your answer if you click "just right." The music I found was soothing but did get repetitive after awhile. The woman's voice when she spoke (fairly rare) was annoying and reflected poor judgment/intelligence in her statements. Puzzles were easy to medium in difficulty. Skip button available if you get frustrated or don't want to play it. Skip/Hint buttons take about 1 minute or so to refill. Overall a good game, just not great. Worth a credit.
I recommend this game!

I cannot say enough about this game! It's just incredible, well thought out, and has superb gameplay. Let's see: Graphics are excellent. The voiceovers are wonderful and very creepy. The entire game was creepy without blood/guts and without paranormal extras. This is what I would have thought EFR should have been. I played for approximately 6 hours or maybe more total. Even the bonus game took me another 45 min to an hour and I'm a fast player.
The map was very helpful. Some of the puzzles were real brain teasers and others just moderately difficult. The twists/turns and size of the mansion/grounds and even the bonus level is surprising and wonderful. Hints refill rapidly as does the skip button. The SG was handy in a few tight spots but overall I did not need to use it much as the map hinted at what needed to be done and also how to get there. Ever get lost in a mansion before? LOL. My only pet peeve with the SG was that when I did go to access the SG, sometimes the button was small or I hit it wrong and I would back out of where I was instead of accessing it.
Also, the only other thing that I felt was unnecessary was the amount of backtracking at times. There were areas where I had to click 12 times to get to an area I needed to be.
Overall this game is THE BEST! Have fun!
I recommend this game!

Solid game. There is murder afoot and you keep finding the bodies! Puzzles are moderately difficult to solve. Graphics are excellent, as is the voice acting. Two modes of play with casual and more advanced. More adventure than HO scenes and it definitely kept me guessing! Misclick penalty of screen going foggy. The storyline isn't the best in that it was confusing at times and didn't make sense in some areas. Linear gameplay. Read a review stating that this had pieces of an object to find. Yes and no, sometimes it was a piece but mostly it was items to make a whole such as a gas can and a lighter to make a portable stovetop. The map and journal were very handy! I wish I'd had them for the latest Ravenhearst installment. ;) I am a fairly quick player and yet it still took me a little over four hours to complete. I didn't really care for the amount of running around I had to do, but luckily it was mostly within a section of the building/exterior. This reminded me of some CE's and I almost wish for the bonus chapter to see what happened next! LOL.
I recommend this game!
