I'm about a third of the way through the game, and so far, I'm liking it.
The biggest complaint I've heard about the recent Delicious family of games is that they have too many minigames. This game has scaled way back on those. Only one action per level will trigger a (pretty simple) minigame.
They have, however, increased the number of objects that require multiple actions to collect. The Betty's Diner stage has only 4 items that can simply be picked up; all the rest require multiple clicks or a wait time.
In my opinion, that actually makes the game harder, though it doesn't interrupt your rhythm as much as minigames do.
And there is some strategy needed, at least on some levels. I just played a level where the Extra Task was to get 8 Quick bonuses. But on this stage, the most popular items require cook time. It wasn't until I figured out that I needed to pre-cook and carry around a few things that I was able to achieve that.
Carl the Mouse has gotten very easy to find, though. He's always right out in the open, usually someplace you need to be looking anyway. Very different from some of the earlier games where you might see one ear behind a window in the corner of the screen.
Visually and mechanically, this games is very similar to recent games, despite having a new developer. It also suffers the audio problem that I've had with almost all of the Delicious Family games where if I'm playing for more than a few levels, the sound gets very staticy. Restarting the game is the only way to fix it.
Story-wise, it seems a little aimless at the moment (Patrick has a mid-life crises while the family goes on vacation), but I've still got 3 1/2 stages to go, so I'm reserving final judgement.
Overall, I think longtime fans will like this game a bit more than recent entries in the series. I'm personally looking forward to finishing it.
I recommend this game!

Being a fan of both the Sally and Delicious games, I found this to be a good combination of their different types of gameplay. I would have preferred a more Sally-style game where you can get kind of a rhythm going and do things in a certain order, where you can't do that here. That said, the gameplay was still quite fun, and the minigames, which the Sally games are built on, aren't as disruptive as they can be in some of the other Delicious games.
It was also nice for Sally to finally have something of a personality. The original Sally games weren't exactly known for their stories. That said, the story here was kind of weak and on the silly side, even for a Delicious game. And the climax was...well, anti-climatic. Even so, it had a lot of heart, as all the Delicious games do.
Overall, a fun game and Sally's a great add to the Delicious universe.
I recommend this game!

The gameplay of this game is pretty good. The story isn't a straight line and it's not always immediately apparent what you need objects for, which does add some mystery to the game. The puzzles weren't bad, and the HOP scenes had some original twists.
All that said, there's really nothing new here, either, for the gameplay or the storyline. You have to gather magic to save the world from some paranormal bad guys and only you can do it because of birthright or something. Yawn. It's been done many times before, and often better.
And despite some gory imagery, I really didn't find this very scary. There were a few attempts at jump scares, but even those fell flat. It wasn't even all that creepy; there are much creepier games on Big Fish.
And perhaps worst of all, it was ridiculously short. Three chapters and a bonus. I think I played through the whole thing in under 4 hours, which is probably longer than it would have taken me had I played it all in one sitting, which I didn't. And there's some obvious padding. I know people like morphing objects and achievements and collectibles, and this game has all that almost to a fault. They also make a big deal about finding puzzle pieces in each scene. But once you find them all and put the puzzles together you get...nothing. No bonus, no addition to the story, no achievement, not even an acknowledgement. And the pictures themselves have nothing to do with the story.
Overall, not a bad game, but not worth the Collector's Edition price.
I don't recommend this game.

A great way to zen out and use that organizing part of your brain. The stations can be a little touchy at times and you have to try more than once to get a character to go there, but overall, a great follow-up to the first one.
I recommend this game!

Wow, I am SO surprised by the negative reviews on this one, because I'm here to tell you...it is AWESOME! I have not finished the game yet, so there is a possibility it turns horrible past where I am, but I kinda doubt that.
What is most impressive about this game is the organic feel it has. By that, I mean it feels like you are actually trying to solve this mystery. It does make sense that you would have to look through several rooms to find a list of objects or that you would have to move stuff around to get things to look like they did. (I've played other HOG/Adventure games where you go to a place from history...and IT'S EXACTLY THE SAME AS IT WAS 100 YEARS AGO! Huh??) If you have to open a door, it makes sense that you would have to fix the lock, as opposed to doing some random puzzle. Or rewiring a fuse box by actually rewiring it, instead of playing some wire-based pipe puzzle. No, these aren't the hardest puzzles I've encountered in these games (EFR had one I didn't even know WHAT to do, much less how to do it), but they make sense in the story that's being told. And yes, the harder ones do have instructions, they just don't automatically pop up. You have to click the question mark.
I found the hint system very helpful actually in that that's exactly what it was; a HINT. A push in the right direction. Its recharge time (on Casual anyway) was quite fast; there's nothing I hate more than being stuck and having to twiddle my thumbs waiting for the hint to recharge. And while there are some sparkles on Casual, they didn't scream at you like they do in some games. I've not had to use the Strategy Guide, but I did take a look at it, and I can see why some people wouldn't like it as it's not a straight-up walk-through. Like the hint system, it tells you enough so you can move on. I know this was an issue in EFR; but, like I suspect will be true in this case, I found it to be enough for my needs. I needed a STRATEGY to get out of the spot I was in, and it gave me that. In some ways, I like it a lot better than a straight-up walk-through; I just finished the CE of "Redemption Cemetery: Grave Testimony" and it has a walk-through as its strategy guide. When I did use it, it was really kind of frustrating and confusing to try and figure out where I was and what I was missing, especially since the walk-through didn't always go in the exact same order I did. Flipping right to a picture of what I'm looking at and giving me a hint? Honestly, that's all I'm looking for.
The art style is different than the previous MCF games; instead of Victorian postcards we have a very photo-realistic environment. Again, that makes sense in this being an organic-feeling game. It works well, and I like it.
I like the journal this time around. It flips right to where you need to be and actually records stuff you need to remember (as opposed to EFR; the journal was the biggest fail in that game).
The music and the sound effects are very good at setting the mood; it's been a long time since a game has creeped me out this much.
The live-action actors are well integrated into the game; again, it feels like you're there, as opposed to being pulled out of the action in a cut scene. My only real complaint about this game (I'm sorry to say): Lea Thompson. While she is better than your average no-name video game actor, her performance is still rather stiff and stilted. Maybe she gets better later in the game, but so far, I'm not impressed.
If you're expecting another "Return to Ravenherst" (and I love that game too!), you're probably going to be disappointed. What we have here is a true adventure game with some HOG and puzzle elements; if you go into it expecting that, I think you'll really like it.
Overall, I would say Big Fish and MCF have done it again: they've pushed the Point-and-Click Adventure/HOG/Puzzle genre to the bleeding edge of concept and technology and showed us a good time while they were doing it. I can't wait to get back to playing it!
I recommend this game!
