Welcome to Mexico and crazed, unprincipled scientists! This is an updated Island of Dr. Moreau. Your cousin needs help and you are up to the task. You travel to Mexico and discover scientists messing around with DNA exchanges between humans and animals. Lots of strange creatures and sick people. Can you reverse the experiments and save both humans and animals?
The artwork is beautiful and nicely atmospheric; typical of ERS games. The music is very appropriate and perfect for the tropical Mexican setting. Good VOs and fun cut scenes. There are lots of achievements to earn. Also, you have a sweet raccoon helper for whom you get to purchase toys, clothes, and other treats by finding hidden bars of soap throughout the game. The raccoon helper is always hungry and sniffing out clues for you. There are different types of HOSs: silhouette, traditonal, and matching pairs. There was also an HOS where you had to find 15 things the ancient Mayans did not use! Nice twist. The puzzles also had variations on the norm. There is a jumbled-tile puzzle where you have to exchange the pieces' position using a right angle tool---different than just clicking to swap two pieces. Good idea.
I always enjoy ERS games for their consistent, high quality artwork and their effort to put a spin on storylines and puzzles. ERS is rising to the challenge the newer devs have created and staying at the top of their game. Good job! Good game!
This series is a real charmer. Appropriate for any age and beautiful to look at. I really enjoy the storyline and watching Princess Sophia, now Queen Sophia, grow up and face new challenges in each new installment.
As Queen Sophia, you need to confront the Enchantress at the Sunhook Spire and set your parents free from their magical slumber. On your way you are abducted by pirates in airships and have to escape. Your trusty friends, the wise Owl and the ever helpful Pocket Dragon, return to your side to aid in your noble quest.
The artwork is gorgeous. The music is just right---not overwhelming and appropriate to the magical setting. VOs are well done, from the narrations to the characters. The HOSs have some nice twists to them. In the opening HOS you have to change the color of the scene using a mirror in order to find objects. In another HOS, after you find an item, the list of items to find changes order. The HOSs are also interactive. There are achievements to earn and morphing bells to find. The puzzles appear simple at first, but then you realize you have to think to solve them. Not as simple or direct as most game puzzles.
This series is a real winner for me. I look forward to completing the game. And kudos to the devs for creating a game that works for all: not too sinister or simplisticly sweet. Well done!
I own the previous games, and this one has some nice changes that add to the atmosphere. The evil witch has again trapped you in the past and closed the portal by hiding the magical amulets. However, you aren't stuck in the kingdom of Orion as you are in the previous games and for me this is a big plus. Allows the devs and artists to be more creative and invent new realms to explore. Also, there is a Charon-like skeleton whom you have to pay in order to cross a chasm to the other realms to search for the amulets. I liked this "paymaster" character, even though his role is not large.
Very nice artwork and cut scenes. Sometimes there are VOs to go along with the printed dialogue, and sometimes there aren't, but not a big deal. There are standard/interactive HOSs and there are search HOSs where you look for related items #e.g., find 15 piano keys#. The puzzles are of medium difficulty and pretty fun. The Hint button works very well---it brings up a mini-picture of the area you need to go to and highlights the specific action within the picture. The music is a little repetitive so, as with all games, I just mute it.
Evil witches are always fun to battle and this one is no exception. She has ruined the lives of good people in the different realms and you get to set things right. You are the Agent of Good. It works. But, these games always seem a little flat to me. I never really engage the way I do with other games and I am never surprised, thus the four star rating, not five.
I really enjoy the Haunted Legends series. The best is still the Bronze Horseman, but this is an enjoyable sequel.
As the Detective, you are asked to de-spirit a house. A magical book has brought the spirits out and they need help moving on so the living descendant can live peacefully.
The artwork is always beautiful in ERS games and this is no exception. I love the painterly quality and the attention to detail in each scene and close up. Nice job! The VOs are good with good actors. The puzzles are of medium difficulty. There are standard HOSs and silhouette/interactive HOSs. The silhouette HOSs can make you think. Easy to navigate and the scenes load quickly.
So why four stars instead of five? The game is short. (It seems to me that the recent SE games from ERS are getting quite short.) I play to enjoy the game, not for speed. Never use hints and never skip puzzles and always stop to enjoy the artwork at each scene. Despite my leisurely play, the game ended quickly. Other than that, a good game.
An enchanted world that is visually beautiful and enchanting. Kudos to the artist and devs.
The storyline may be familar, but the execution is what makes this game outstanding. Your mother died when you were young and then your father went missing. Now you are going to find out what happened. You have the help of a sweet, pointy-eared friend from Nearwood, the enchanted world you are about to explore. Nearwood is truly enchanting, beautiful and mysterious. An evil shadow has taken over and disrupted the balance of good. From where did the shadow come? And who released it? Oh no, could it have been your father?
The opening cut scenes, with the background story, are well directed and gorgeous. The ambient sound pleasant and appropriate to the magical realm. You feel transported!
There do not appear to be any achievements to earn, but you do get to search for Snoop-Sees, a cute, furry creature with a story of their own. There is "bag" that works as a journal/carry all for items you find. The puzzles were of medium difficulty. Though the shadow is ominous, it is not really scary and so anyone of any age will enjoy this lovely game. I know I am purchasing it.
Yes, once again you get to vanquish evil in the form of a Dark Lord---and it works! It's okay to have a familiar storyline if it is well done. And this is well done.
Great art work, achievements to earn, map, nice VOs and cut scenes. The HOSs are sequential/interactive and of medium difficulty. The puzzles are also of medium difficulty.
You are in the 1800's and a new member of an order dedicated to light and defeating the dark side. You get sent to help a village where the once defeated Dark Lord appears to be making a comeback. When you arrive, a young woman is kidnapped by a flying, ugly creature and taken to the looming, Dark Lord's castle. And now the game is on! Rescue the damsel and defeat the evil forces! This always works for me---it's fun!
To begin, it is Mystery Trackers by Elephant Games: that alone lets you know immediately it is going to be a great game. This series never disappoints!
The art work is beautiful, the cut scenes scary and really good, the VOs and dialogue spot on, achievements to earn and mysterious animals to find. There is also a map and a wonderful dossier that gives detailed information on other agents and adds so much to the game. There is so much to do in this game and the attention to story background is unparalleled.
This episode of the series delves into the Mystery Trackers organization and how they were founded. Really great story and wonderful background infomation on the group. There is a rogue MT agent/founder from the 13th century who is wrecking havoc on other MT agents and the organization. Why? Well, that's the mystery. And how do you stop him? You acquire powers as you progress through the game that help you overcome traps and barriers. I just love the depth of the story line and the effort the devs have gone to to create a truly complete and complex gaming world! It is amazing!
And of course, your dog friend and helper Elf is also back. It just wouldn't be an MT game without him. He rocks!
Loved the first game, Final Cut: Death on the Silver Screen, and the demo of this sequel does not disappoint!
Great graphics, terrific story, fabulous cut scenes and VOs, 19 (count them!) achievements, morphing objects, and collectibles! Wow. Eipix is really setting the bar high for other devs.
HOSs and puzzles are not too difficult and well done. There's a journal and a map---features I really like in a game.
The story is continued from the first game, but there is enough backgroud given so it doesn't matter if you haven't played the first game. However, I recommend you do because it was also terrific!
The story is more adult in that the characters are multidimensional. The key figure is your dead father and he was complicated: he was not all bad or all good, but he was a creative genius. You and your brother are still trying to clean up his messes. Your nutso half-sister has returned as well as a suspicious General claiming to have your best interests at heart. Love the mystery and not knowing whom you can really trust. Looking forward to solving the game!
We really liked the first Stray Souls and the demo of this game proves to be even better. The mood is quite dark---this is no light, pretty fairy tale. Your husband disappears and when you and your daughter go to find him, someone or something that looks like your husband steals your daughter from you.
Now that the scene is set, get ready for amazing cut scenes! Well animated and gorgeous to watch. A real treat. Other devs need to take note.
The cloth doll helper from the first game is back (glad to see he did survive the game one ending). We like this character. He's dark and a little scary which suits the game mood perfectly.
The doll house is back as well. Again, we like this feature. It fills in the back story and gives you hints and inventory objects. Nice way to augment the game play.
One disappointing facet---no morphing objects in this game! Both the CE and SE of the first game had morphing objects. Morphing objects and achievements add enormously to a game's fun factor and are a big reason for us to purchase a game. All devs need to add these features to their games in our opinion---we expect it now.
The artwork is top notch! A real beauty of a game. Good balance between the dark mood and the lovely colors.
HOSs are somewhat interactive and objects are well defined.
The thing we love about this series is the extraordinary art work and attention to detail. Each scene, each hidden object, each puzzle has the most amazing art work. Backgrounds are designed like an old master painting with every aspect detailed and beautiful and a wonder. No other devs take the time to create such a perfect gaming world where you can immerse yourself totally. Now let's talk story: Fabulous. The rewriting of our most well-known parables is great. Morals are still there, but with a welcome twist. They create story backgrounds that enchant. This game is one of our favorites already.
