Mortimer is back for an all-new, eye-popping adventure in Mortimer Beckett and the Time Paradox! Join Mortimer for a trip through time in this great hidden object game.
I love all of these Mortimer Beckett games (except the very early one, which seemed like a type of PacMan game). I didn't even know of them until a few weeks ago. Heard about them on another website and then returned to BFG to unearth a little gold mine of fun. They are so lighthearted, Mortimer is a goofball, the music is great, and they are irresistible. Of course, they are not in the same category of great games like the Dark Parables or Myths of the World series: they are a different romp through a very colorful world. I recommend this highly (all the games are more or less interchangeable). With coupons to use up and with Big Fish specials, you don't have to spend much to grab these for a light entertainment when you don't feel like much of a challenge. Give it a whirl!
Despite some technical problems (which I am hopeful Big Fish will fix), this is a wonderful game: very lovely visually, with every kind of extra you might want: interactive map, with six areas, each with multiple rooms, to explore; great HOGS; puzzles that are challenging, but not impossible; a good storyline; not too much dialogue, but what is there sounds good; morphing objects in every scene; plus extra jigsaw puzzles. It's a rich HOPA experience. Good enough that, when I stalled, I was willing to start over with another profile and try again (I have made it past the problem...whew!). I recommend this game highly.
After inheriting an old antique shop, Emily discovers an odd diary that seems to contain a number of clues as to the book's origin. As she delves deeper into the mystery, what she uncovers will change her forever.
I'm hoping that I can help raise the overall rating on this game, because it deserves more attention: I'm always curious why people who don't like HOGS play HO games and then complain about too many HOGS! I love them, which is why it's my favorite genre. Okay, this game isn't very fancy and doesn't have voice overs or any other bells and whistles that make top notch games, but it's fine. It's nice to find a basic game once in a while that still presents some challenges and enjoyment. Every scene includes a HOG and some also have puzzles. It's atmospheric, with very nice music. Give it a chance before you ignore it. I love the very Russian artwork and unique objects. Thanks BFG.
Usually, I don't review things unless I have something nice to say. But this is one of the oddest games I’ve encountered: after a short intro, the game just starts…no place to enter our name, pick difficulty level, or figure out what's happening. The game simply starts, as if we’ve been playing the game for an hour. After the requisite drive to the scene, we enter a mansion and crash through the floor to the basement. The HOGS are kind of fun…drawings of things that are in the scene. Unique little puzzles. But again, odd. There was a lot to keep me on my toes the first eight minutes and I thought I might like it, even with the strange beginning. I kept thinking I’d get a chance to ‘sign in” or something. Anyway, as an animal lover who gets upset when a game requires feeding a butterfly to a spider or killing a mouse, I was deeply troubled by a scene early in the game where I had to trap a bear, harpoon a fish, kill a moose with a crossbow, shoot a bird with a rifle, and stab a boar to death with a knife (all with the cries of agony following each one). Certainly way out of my comfort zone and thus I cannot recommend the game with any faith whatsoever.
The fabled land of Agartha awaits your discovery in Esoterica: Hollow Earth! Experience a sci-fi adventure that will take you to the depths of the Earth.
Although this isn't a particularly challenging game, it is certainly one of the most beautiful. Big Fish has been putting out one fantastic game after another lately and I have been a very happy HOPA player. Because this isn't a CE, we don't have a map or strategy guide, so I did get lost a couple of times. But eventually, I just started enjoying the ride. This has simply beautiful artwork, which, as one other reviewer mentioned, is 20s/30s Art Deco. Good music, enjoyable plot (told from two viewpoints), and certainly worthy of good reviews. Ignore the couple of people who rated this low. It's wonderful.
I have no idea why so many people gave this game bad reviews when it first came out. For some reason, I had missed it, but I just bought it and spent the last two nights playing it. If people don't like HOGs, why do they play them and then complain about too many HO scenes? The game ends with teasers about the sequel, which looks even more exciting than this first game. I hope the bad reviews didn't influence BFG not to purchase the sequel, because this series deserves more attention and I'm sure will find lots of happy fans. It has no bells and whistles: no map, achievement trophies, or special objects. It is simply a quest packed with HOGS. And they are difficult ones, too. Kudos to Happy Muffin Top!
This game is different and very entertaining. Don't expect a normal pirate game: this story is new and unusual. The narrator tells the tale of a beautiful, happy couple whose active, social lives had disintegrated into misery. First, she disappeared. Then years later, his body washes ashore dressed as a pirate, with a hook for one of his hands! As we investigate their fate, an interactive map guides us through five levels of the grounds and rooms of their once-luxurious, but now rat-infested home, there are loads of HOs and puzzles, numerous gates and doors to unlock in various ways, and coins scattered throughout every scene. The coins open up chests to reveal key objects to solving the mystery. This game has everything, and it's fun to boot! I recommend it highly. The voice talent is top-notch and I loved the soundtrack..a haunting soprano who seems to be wailing and mourning the fate of the sad couple. Thanks, Big Fish. I love this game!
This is such a surprise! It's unlike most of my favorite games (I love complicated HOPAs, often with grim plots). But the artwork is beautiful, it has an amazing amount of special objects (similar to Beyond objects, but much more), and we earn achievements. It's fun to play and rewarding, too. My trial hour sped by. I'm buying it immediately!
Louis the Clown and Mr. Dudley are back in an all-new adventure! Travel through the dark corners of history's most famous fairytales to rescue children trapped in a frightening netherworld!
This game is a delight and is filled with surprises. It has a huge amount of puzzles and HO scenes. So many things are going on, it is a joy to play. I keep expecting it to be ending but instead we open up another door to yet one more level of play. It is as good as many collector's editions, plus it has a lot of humor and joy. I recommend it highly.
I love this game! I don't recall Golden Trails 1 and 2, but this one is fantastic. The voiceover actor is wonderful so we don't get sick of his dialogue, but you can skip any dialogue you wish. There are dozens of beautiful locations, with a couple of rooms at each site. With a detailed map to show us the cities (Paris, Rome, maybe more), we always know where we're going and how many things we have to find at each place. We earn trophies for reaching various levels, and unlock unlimited play and bonus play as we find more and more of the surprises. The plot is a good mystery, but it's not gory or creepy. It's just fun. It's kept me up way past my bedtime and I'm going to be so sorry in the morning (today). But right now, who cares? It's really been worth it. it's the kind of game that I want to keep starting over to see if I can play it perfectly without hints just to see how far I can go. It's challenging but not exhausting. I didn't lose my place as I have been lately in some of the more complicated HO games. This one is really just fun and beautiful, too.
