I sat back and read some of the more negative reviews before deciding on how I would word mine - didn't want to be the only sore duck in the row. I hate that the tax collectors are gone and if you don't pick up the gold, wood, food, etc. yourself in time...it...all...goes...away. You still have the ability to get the CE with the strategy guide (which you will use A LOT) but even that is confusing and hard to follow. I wanted to like this game because I was over the moon for REI (which I just played a few hours ago) but it was more frustrating than fun and who wants more hours of frustration in their day. No thanks. Try the trial and it may be for you but, sorry, glam-ma says not for me.
This is the most fun I've had in ages! I played both the SE and the CE and would recommend the CE because you get 30 extra levels (singing again). You build, upgrade, demolish, get food trading at the market and go help villagers in many types of territories and weather. The CE also has an integrated strategy guide but I only needed it once when I played on and on and on and on and couldn't figure out how to get a dang machine to work. The graphics were great, music was great, everything was great! Oh, one thing was not so great - when I growled - yes growled - when the trial period ended. I am so getting this game.! On this one - glam-ma says you should do a re-think if you don't give the trial at least a try (smile). And these types of games aren't the only type I play. I am guilty of the gory, scary, etc., etc. but I also get into the fun and cutsey - don't we all need that now and again? But, this, will have me smiling all day.
I have now done Road I, II and III and after I they are all the same except more fires in II and then more fires in III. You can cut down any trees until you get the sawmill up, the berry bushes replenish until you get the farm going and stones abound until the quarry is running. So, you really don't have to take a minute or two to figure out how you're going to get from point A to Z with the limited resources at your hands because you're never without resources. I have tried several other games of this type on this site and they were all better and after several easy levels worked you up to making you think of what your next move would be and if you didn't plan well you had to redo that level. Glam-ma says 2 thumbs down. Not even worth getting as a free game - so sad.
I have been playing so many mindless, brainless games lately it was nice to sink my teeth back into this genre, especially in the middle of the night in the dark of my room - creepy. I found the sound quality and background noise to be perfect for the settings, the HOGs not too difficult, the storyline sad (perfect honeymoon turns into tragedy). The thing I found most intriguing (and I'd like to read other reviews later and see if anyone else caught this), but the diseased people stood around in a trance (looking like zombies) and yet it was water that repelled them. This seemed like a great game that I will purchase but will refrain from continuing in the middle of the night, with the lights out. Glam-ma highly recommends.
I don't think it was "operator error" (meaning me) but I turned the volume way up and there was no sound which made it so boring I kept nodding off. The basis was the same as Road I. I believe it would be good for any level especially a beginner. I usually don't like these types of games but came across one I fell in love with so when I come across them again I will give it a try. Eventually I will probably get this as a freebie as I am definitely getting Roads I and am off to give Roads III a try. Even the video in Roads II had music so I don't know what gives. I need the voice overs in games and at least music in these types of games or I'll just sleep. Glam-ma rates this a disappointment.
Away from the scary ghosts, goblins, witches, etc. Just build a road to get to Rome. That's it, simple. Along the way collect crystals, keep the wolves at bay. Great instructions with each level. Disappointed that it was only 50 levels and I reached 10 during the Free Trial so I would probably consider it short but sweet. Because of that (the shortness of the game) I would probably get as a freebie or buy on Double Punch Monday. - In any event, it will go on glam-ma's list of games to get. Reminded me a lot of that game (forgive me if I get the name wrong) A Gnomes Home - I LOVED that game and spent many long hours playing it. Great for beginners.
After 40 minutes into the trial (I just couldn't manage another 20) I gave up. No hints unless you were in the HOG - no direction of where to go or what to do. After 40 minutes I'd like to have had something happen besides doing 2 HOGs. I wanted to like it but really couldn't and don't have much good to say about it. For the less experienced who still need help w/hints and help you won't get - no diary or journal, no hint button. Nothing.
I don't recommend this game.

It's very rare that I won't finish a trial period of a game. In fact, until now I never have. Like a bad book I wanted to go on and on until it started to get good. But when it takes over 30 minutes to get past the first HO area it's over for me. The items were so small I had my magnifying glass out and was not only getting frustrated but felt like a failure because I consider myself quite an expert at finding items in HOG. I wouldn't recommend this game for beginners and maybe not even for intermediates but for the challenged and those who like and live for a good challenge this game is for you. Glam-ma was disappointed.
Ok, so maybe I'm a little bias here because I don't usually play match 3 games. But, in my defense I DO play them when there is a point and something is happening within the game. For example, build a village, feed the world, kill the aliens - get my drift? But when all you do is match 3 over and over and over it isn't even a mindless, senseless game - it's boring. What was the point. After 30 minutes I was falling asleep. I gave the next 30 minutes up to my 6 year old granddaughter who got bored after 15 minutes and asked if there was something "funner" to play. This just isn't for me but for those match 3 fanatics out there go for it. One difference from all those over monotonous match 3 games? Click on LOOM and all your hard labor will ultimately uncover some interesting tapestries. Glam-ma says both thumbs down.
And that's just what the doctor orders sometimes. Sarah and her boyfriend are visiting her Grandfather's uncharted island, minding their own business when her boyfriend disappears - or was he taken by the island's inhabitants? The free trial was full of great visuals, not too difficult to find items/tools in the HOGs and everywhere you went there was an HOG that led you to another HOG and another and another while gathering tools and then once you finished your hunting and gathering of items and tools you completed whatever the goal was in the level and moved on. My granddaughter could probably play this. I can't believe a strategy guide is available separately because I didn't see the need but, who knows, maybe further into the game you do. I played this at a time when the "doc" definitely was ordering mindless simplicity and my reaction when the free trial was over was "NO! and ARGH!". Obviously, I am purchasing it now so I can finish it. Glam-ma says go for it.
