I have owned all the MOAI games and this one is very challenging, but not impossible to gold every level as I did.
What players need to know is that they need those backpack items installed on their characters and upgraded as soon as possible. To get the items needed for the backpacks, every inch of each level needs to be explored, all merchants/collectors and traders dealt with, and all plates and figurine pieces found. Judicious use of the spell signs can slow down enemies, mitigate disasters and increase production. Without them, it would be hard to gold the levels.
PROs: - increased difficulty from previous versions - new spells and uses for them - new protagonists and dangers - dual play tracks: one for the son and one for daughter - beautiful graphics - smooth, interesting character & item movements - bonus levels for gold level players
CONs: - I miss the character's map portraits changing as they acquire skills and implements/body ornaments - not enough explanation of the new spells & signs. For new MOAI players, there could be too much expectation that they already know how to play the MOAI games - paths to bonus levels not clearly defined. 3 previous levels must be gold to reach a bonus. Not always easy to tell which 3 those are. - daughter and son need more character development
Suggestion to developers: add a 1st, robust tutorial level (that can be skipped) to help new players and introduce spells. Show players how to use the backpack, runes, signs and equipment to best advantage.

The match 3 portion of the game was quite good. A few interesting new twists on Match 3, some very hard levels and overall very enjoyable play. Not very difficult, but it can be tricky. The graphics were colorful and well designed but the idea of the game was fairly horrendous. Take a pristine island paradise and turn it into an ugly, touristy carnival-land that no one would want to visit when you are finished. It started as 5 Star and ended up as a Motel 6 in Hawaii. But you have to build to get the extras you need to win. Unfortunate as it could have been a lovely visual game.
Its a fun, time-eating popper. Not very difficult but a great relaxing game with a few interesting popper twists The visuals and storyline are sad at best so just ignore them.
Just a little bit too simplistic. The game is quite easy and the visuals look like they were designed 20 years ago. Also slightly jerky on level loads and slow to boot. Love Match Threes but cannot recommend this one.

I call these types of TM games, "Rush and Do" games. You basically dash around putting together the required layers of burgers, courses of food, vases of flowers etc. This one is particularly boring as almost nothing changes. After getting every upgrade available, I was still only 1/2 way done with the game - and the challenge was over. There are no cool mini-games, no exciting way to alter play... nothing. And one of the worse problems is that I am faster than the game is. I am running around doing all that is required and actually get ahead of play and must slow down or risk clicking the wrong "thing" (because I am there too fast). Pretty game though. It would be good for children.
Such an excellent TM game on every level: graphics, gameplay, storyline. Nice and LONG - really worth every penny. One of the top games of the year. I will buy #3 when it comes out without even trialing it first.
Nice little time management, "clear the road" game. Not exceptional but has some clever scenario twists. The story line is a bit weird and definitely has little to do with any real Vikings, but all in all, not a waste of money. I agree that the soundtrack is annoying however.

I love time management games but this one sets a new low. The graphics are juvenile, the game play is ploddingly slow, and the storyline is silly. If you like games like Royal Envoy, My Kingdom for the Princess series or the Adelantado series, you will really not like this one. Very sad...
