I feel that I should defend this game since there were many negative reviews that criticized two aspects that I liked about it. Firstly, it is extremely creepy, but in a good way. I'm always skeptical when a game labels itself as a "scary", "psychological thriller", but they were not kidding. The sound effects got to me after about two hours and I needed a break (which was probably a good thing). I didn't think the creepiness over-stepped the line (insane wailing, crying, medical equipment beeping), and it was just right for me . However, if you feel squeamish about popping pimples, squeezing the bellies of pregnant mannequins, and dealing with psychopathic robot surgeons with scalpels, then you might want to reconsider playing this game. Secondly, it is more challenging than the average HOG, which I find a delightful change. Certainly not as difficult as the Nancy Drew series (which can be nearly impossible sometimes!), but does require you to sit and think a while. A few people complained about needing a pen and paper to note things down as you go along, but if you are used to playing more challenging puzzle/detective games, then that's not really an issue. Especially because having an in-game notebook that automatically notes down the hint for you is basically just giving you the answer, and spoils the fun... So, if you're looking for a scary and challenging time, this is the game for you! Or else, I would recommend other games in the series or the House of 1000 Doors series.
I absolutely adore the 1000 doors series, and this was the first that got me hooked. The concept of a house with a mind of its own, quirky occupants, and helping lost souls is a great combo. I would prefer it if the puzzles were slightly more challenging, but since it's a HOG, I wasn't expecting too much. The storyline is interesting, and the gameplay is seamless.
When an elusive killer strikes a high-tech lab, Nancy Drew is called in to sneak into secret areas, interrogate workers for multiple motives, and expose the truth behind The Deadly Device!
I have played every single Nancy Drew game and this is one of the better ones. I was actually afraid that the ND games were beginning to get less challenging since Captive Curse and Tomb of the Lost Queen were not that difficult (fun but not the usual level of difficulty). This was great. The puzzles were very clever. Plot, graphics etc were up to the usual excellent standard.
PS I would not recommend heeding the one-star reviews if you are an ND fan, as these were comparing ND games with other Hidden Object games.

I liked the game overall. The characters were fun. It was fast-paced. Became a bit repetitive after a while, but still fun. Very similar, nearly identical, to Supermarket Mania but I like Supermarket Mania so didn't mind the similarities.
However, the major no-no for me was the obvious bugs in the game. Characters sometimes freeze in front of a shelf, and don't react even if you've explained the product to them/re-filled the shelf. The bug doesn't occur too frequently BUT one particular bug in level 19 of one of the shops just keeps recurring, so I haven't actually completed the game (20 levels in total for each shop). And replaying the same level 3 times was enough to make me want to give up completing the game.
