I have been a fan of this series from one of my favorite devs. But this one seemed crudely made. The game play was not as fluid as I am used to seeing in ERS games. The story was not developed and never game me a reason to care about the people in the story or why or how I got there. The incent rain finally got on my nerves, the only reprieve was an indoor scene. But what made me decide not to buy was the same reason stated by another reviewer. The custom settings made us chose the time between hint and skip. Most games let us set those independently. I hated the loss of that control. This is the first time of any of the ERS games I have not purchased. I am a big fan of them. I hope they read the reviews and listen to their customers who want very much for them to return to top developer status. They need to check out the wonderful things that other devs are doing these days.
I don't recommend this game.

I hate to be the lone voice here but .. game of the year? Really? We have had some great games already this year but this is not one of them. I was underwhelmed and bored silly. I could barely finish the demo. If I have to fight one more monster that flys out of no where for no good reason I will give up! There was a very weak storyline. Oh, I think it was something like save the world with the magic ruby. Now that is stimulating ! I just could not get into any part of this game. I am happy for the folks that raved about this game but I will not be one them. I do not recommend this game.

I bought this game due to the reviews. I will never do that again. This is one of the worst games I have played. There is nothing good to say about this game other than it is over and I have already deleted it. The story was stupid. The graphics were terrible, I know it is hard to make everything made out of stone look good so why is the game dominated by stone, stone and more stone? Ugly and purposeless. The game was boring and we had no one to cheer for, all of the characters were flat. Enough with the fake monsters and swirling purple smoke already. I wont be buying any other games from this dev. and I will not be so trusting of the opinions of the reviewers from now on.
I don't recommend this game.

With all of the reviews for this game I don't have any stunning insights that have been missed by others. I can only speak to my reaction to this game. We have had some great games lately and I truly think the better devs are stepping it up big time. We had sort of plateaued in this genre until recently when we were lucky enough to get some innovative games from Epix, now here we have Mad Head stepping it up big time. Bringing us one of the most innovative and immersive games on the market. It sucked me in right from the beginning but I think it is interesting that both of these devs have started upping the game value with fun things to do post game with fun extras like puzzles and fabulous bonus chapters. All tied into the original game, the extras extend the game play and add to the depth of the story. I loved the jigsaw puzzle and the character notes with this game.
For the folks who did not like this game...perhaps another genre would be better for them. This game could not have been better.. well conceived story with outstanding execution. What more could we ask for..really?
I recommend this game!

So here we are in a wonderfully crafted world by Mad Head Games. This game is exceptional and could be the best made game of the year. It will be hard to beat for sure. Mad Head Games is quickly rising to the top of the pack for games that are masterfully done. They push the game play in ways I could never have imagined. They took us to a typical small town in the 1950s complete with a neighborhood diner with 1950 cars seats for booths. We can order hamburgers, hot dogs and of course a sundae with a cherry on top. Diana has lots of friends along the way that we get to know and love. The locations are all so much fun and true to the period of the game. It reminds me of the old classic sci-fi moves where we start out with normal folks who get swept away by aliens. So fun. But this is much much more than a sci-fi movie. It is a story of love and loyalty against all odds. Good vs. evil etc. We don't get to see Diana but Nix and the Indian guy are gorgeous and so is Nix's dad you cans see the family resemblance. The US army was represented in true form with a powerful general and stoic soldiers. And who can forget the western movie in the making complete with a crazy leading man who is a bit on the crazy side.
This is a game that will be fun to play over and over. there is so much to do. I have never been so pulled into a game... time stopped for me as I became immersed in the story and magic created by this stellar developer. I recommend carving out lots of time. Once you begin you won't want to stop and this is a long game. And I have to say a word about the bonus section. It also is done with great creativity..there is a jigsaw puzzle that is so cleverly done it rivals any of the puzzles I have seen that are stand alone games. They threw it in at the end. A picture of the diner with all of the great characters in the game chowing down. I loved it.
The only other developer who is close right now in my book is epix. their games are also breaking ground in this genre that is otherwise becoming stale.
Many thanks to mad Head for this one and keep them coming, Diana and Nix have to have more adventure together!
I recommend this game!

I passed this game up when it first came out due to early bad reviews. I ran across it again and decided to download. I am so glad I did. I love this game. The developer is new to me and I hope they continue to supply us with games like this one. It is so creative and different. I love the storyline. Albert is an artist with more than his share of artistic angst. He is depressed, has anxiety causing him to have bad dreams. Very bad dreams which begin to mix with reality. He struggles to make sense of this throughout his journey to find the truth about his dark side. The side of him that takes over when he is depressed.
He never loses sight of his love of his family which ultimately leads him to a better emotional place. Our journey is his... we walk with him through his dreams. The artistic angle of this game is so creative. I even loved the puzzles, usually I skip them in most game because they bore me. the HOP scenes and the puzzles are very clever and creative. I cannot say enough good things about this game.
My lesson here is when evaluating a new game give the reviews time to multiply to get a better idea of the game. I almost lost the opportunity to play a game that has become a real favorite. I hope you give it a try. I loved it.
I recommend this game!

I like the dev but I think this game is mediocre at best. It is not horrible but falls so short of some of the games we see these days from other devs that I think this one needs to step up their game.
I never write negative reviews but with when I see reviewers saying things like game of the year I felt compelled to bring some much needed balance.
I say play the demo for sure. You may enjoy it. But I did not purchase..I was just underwhelmed by the lack of quality in this game. Sorry vendal..maybe next time.
I don't recommend this game.

It seems like big fish hand picks the most innovative developers to partner with. I love this game a lot. It is one of my favorites now. If you want a highly intensive, high quality game this is it. No crazy monsters in a made up world. this is a horror story about two prom nights gone bad...great stuff.

This is a wonderful series and this is the best in it. The precision and care that goes into making these games is amazing. Great storyline filled with personal interest and historical fact and fiction. Very cleverly done. The graphics and sound are perfect and it moves quickly. I do like the facts about the Smithsonian that are available throughout but not so heavy handed that they disrupt gameplay. I never play the puzzles in a game. I usually find them tedious and annoying. In the demo I played them all and loved it. The puzzles and the hidden object scenes are clever and fun and add relevance to the story. Great game, lots of fun for those of us who like to think along with being entertained. I highly recommend this game.

So glad that BF is now letting us know who the developers are in the game info. I have been asking for that for years. I always buy ERS games, they never disappoint. They set the bar early on for some of the best developers out there. But ERS has held their own in the process. The puppet series has always been exceptional but this game is truly innovative.
Please pay attention to the intricate level of detail in everything they have done in this game. Right from the first screen your hear the cries of the newsboy selling his newspapers on the streets of Paris. There is a newspaper and if you read it you will see clever hints of what is to come. It talks of a new world where puppets are going to take over the jobs of the people! As the newspaper falls you see that it is not held by a newsboy as assumed, it is a puppet! So clever. This the is age of steampunk. the story is set in Paris at the beginning of what will become the industrial age. If you are not familiar with steampunk I suggest you look it up. ERS even gives us two ways to experience the game, casual or steampunk view. How cool is that!! They spared no expense in creating this game. the game play is fun and adventurous and the whole experience should be savored...don't rush you may miss something. the devil is definitely in the detail in this game. I usually don't take the time to read the diaries in games they are so repetitive but this one is very helpful and gives real insight into the story. It makes it so much more interesting. Lots of characters, lots of dialogue and a true work of art. Every scene is perfectly calculated to add to the experience.
I am off to play some more, but I could not resist writing a bit of a review. Game of the year? I would not be at all surprised. Enjoy!!
I recommend this game!
