I couldnt even get through the trial. Boring, bad acting, graphics silly and cartoonish and just plain trash. Rarely do I give negative reveiws, but this time around was an exception to the rule.
Wow, after 15 minutes I could not hold my eyes open. I was falling asleep sitting up. Only good thing was that it bored me to a good nights sleep. I am tired of this series and others. They have become dull, lack a good story and just feel clunked together, kinda like a platypus, just a bunch of leftovers that creation didn't want to waste. in fact some of the scenes I recognize recycled backgrounds from other games, YAWN! I am wondering why I still maintain a ridiculously costly membership, as a Canadian I pay about 15 bucks a month and for what? Last couple games I have purchased with cash and or credits has been mediocre at best. What about adult games set in the present with real stories? Long since have I enjoyed a good ghost story or sci-fi. I'm also getting tired of all the steampunk artwork or neon colours that are garish and eyesores. Now we will be bombarded with an glut of Christmas stories until well into the new year. I'll give it til then if any good games come up in the year 2022. If not, I'm done with my membership.
I don't recommend this game.

I know its an oldie, but not that old when ya think about how far some games came back then even with graphics, innovation and storyline. This has zip, nada, zero of any of the above. It is slow, tedious, repetitive, nauseating and dreary. It has muted brown and black backgrounds and the hidden objects can be hard to find. The hint button takes forever, as do the scene changes, when you walk from place to place. They have no useful map, no skip and the transition "map" between scenes is a bland beige, with little feet traipsing back and forth over and over for at least 15 seconds. Plus its not even the real details of the rooms, just filler nonsense.
There are no mini-games or puzzles, just hidden object scenes either to dark or as dull as matching shapes to objects on display. No challenge at all...
Actually I lie, it was a challenging. FOR ME to even try to get through and I never did. I couldn't take the sheer boredom!
I am so tired of the same damsel in distress, lost love, found love, lived all HAPPY-DO-DAH! Doesn't anyone have a bit or a darker or spookier story line that doesn't resemble a soap opera and makes sense when it comes to tool collecting. In real life I am not going to spend another hour looking for a rock to use as a hammer, when I just used a perfectly good one?
Tougher characters, adult oriented (not that kind of adult) or mature story line. With all the weird stuff happening in the world right now, I am sure someone could come up with a great story based in part on real stuff. Not necessarily violence. But a good spooky thing, for example, a plague like Facility 47 or Forsaken Souls series. Developers always use the same, boring and lazily written storylines. I am getting close to just leaving BFG. Too much repetition.
I couldn't get through the demo. It was just too "busy" with too many little games you had to do before getting anywhere. I am also getting so tired of the same stories and the 1800's characters and backdrops. I like my games on the dark side and I like a good story even with the "Old Timey" backdrop. But ONLY if there is good tale, and good actors. Frankly I didn't stick around long enough to judge the actors, so I can't say anything about it. This one just didn't do anything for me.
I rarely comment until I finish a game. I am fairly easy to please for the most part. But this...I just couldn't get into it, the characters, the storyline, none of it. I have played a couple from this series and they have been pretty good all around. This one, at least for me, fell flatter than the earth is claimed to be.(No I am not one of those people.) If I can barely get through the demo, its not a good thing. Maybe I expect too much after playing so many top of the line spooky games from the present day to some that are several years old. Ex. The True Fear series, Maze series (except for the last, it sucked) and other freaky horror games. If a game can't grab me within the first hour, it is much like a book. I put it down. Slow burns are okay, but this one didn't even fizzle for me. Sorry!
I don't recommend this game.

This is very old school and I really, really enjoyed it. Creepy storyline and overall atmosphere. The puzzles were cool and the hidden objects difficult to find, but I enjoy that too. I love spooky horror games and have played the sequel to this game as well "Redrum Time Lies". That is even creepier and even more fun! There are no collectables, no gimmicks like the new games have, it does however make up for it with the story in a big way.
My favourite games series of all time for horror is the "True Fear-Forsaken Souls" and its sequel (hard to find) I played the first two in the series and many of us are waiting for the final chapter, it is a trilogy and a superb one at that.
So in the mean time, I don't mind amusing myself with this little "Redrum" gem and its sequel. It would be nice to see this also finished as a trilogy, as the second one "Time Lies" ended with a cliffhanger.
Ridiculously short game for a collectors edition. Took me an hour from start to finish. I have yet to play the bonus chapter and I am not sure I really want to now. Weak story-line and characters, game play simple and whats with the DNA strands for collectors items? This is not the usual Phantasmat, some folks got either very bored at work or lazy...or both. YAWN! Don't waste your money on this snoozer
Nope, nope and nope. I love this series, but this, what the heck! Crappy story-line, games are too easy, characters unlikable. I have never reviewed on just a demo, but it was just so bad. I was going to just buy it outright when I saw it, I almost did! Glad I did not waste my two game credits or cash for that matter. So very disappointing for a series that I thought I couldn't get enough of. I have nothing positive to offer here. Don't waste your money or your time. Total Bummer!
