It's been too long since I've played the others for me to compare them but I do remember really enjoying lighthouse (first one) thought second one was good but not as good as the first one (? ) but think this could be the worst but I still mostly enjoyed it as a filler game.
I felt the plot was tied up at the end of the game - I was satisfied how it ended, there were no loose ends.
The graphics in the first game were very good this looks like it is a far older game than the the first one with some of the graphics but they are OK.
The plot is that you are trying to rescue your fiance from a witch and along the way you have individual stories (which are the chapters to the game) from ghosts you are trying to free from the witch spell which was good. It's a simple straightforward game although some things like the inventory bar is at the side, and using your torch is a bit different. It's heavy on the HOS with a quite a few very easy puzzles (once you get past the weird first puzzle) that most are very quick to do.
28 Hidden object scenes
I always loved how this series does the HOS but here you only find one card in a scene which then unlocks the list for you to find the items. You usually need an inventory item in the scene as well. They are all list type, and mostly non junk but in the very cluttered realm. I enjoyed the scenes although there are some very small items, but they were quite well defined. There is a random click penalty. There are no sparkles on the HOS but as you repeat all of them once (you play each scene twice) you have to remember to go back and click on them.
22 puzzles
The puzzles were a bit weird as they were mostly so very easy once you get past the snake head which was tricky in execution. All ones you have seen before or so slight variation on it. jigsaw, simon says, swap items to be correct, click in right order, rotate tiles, gear, find right sequence, add up numbers, tic tac, match pair but there were a couple that may take a while.
There is a choice of two hardness, hint just takes ages in the hardest which I played. No sparkles on HOS or items but sometimes there were sparkles on puzzles you had activated.
There is no transporter map and I don't think you had much more than about 6 back arrows, it was all very contained and I don't think you could get lost so I think *people who love a lot of HOS, don't mind a fair few easy puzzles but don't like wandering about that much, and don't like getting lost will like this game.
It's not long it's under 4hrs (about 3hrs 40mins) and I didn't skip any puzzles etc or dialogue but the other two games were short as well.
Although I had quite a bit of fun playing something a bit different, even though the plot was nice, it just felt like a really old game and sequels should get better and I thought the plots in the other games were far better.
So my recommendation is not to spend full price on it but if you are like what I said earlier then pick it up a DD.
Which is why I'm not giving it an active recommendation but check it out if you like * what I said earlier.

Review on finished game on hardcore
Plot is tied up in main game and bonus is just side story.
I'll put two disclaimers as I know a lot of people disagree with me and I know this affects my enjoyment factor - I don't really like the graphics but then I rarely do with ERS - it's just OK for me and storylines with fantastical plots aren't my favourite but the plot was done well if you like that sort of thing. Although I never understand some animals in it and what they have got to do with the story.
I know people have been raving about this game since the release but I was a bit disappointed in it, never had the fun factor for me and I have preferred other ERS games over this one but it is good.
PROS
There were some nice interactions and a bit different and it was a good enough length - about 5 hrs main game
Puzzles although a lot where the same types and wasn't enjoying a fair amount of them, they weren't all easy and there were some nice ones in there.
HOS they tried to do different kinds
CONS
-I do wish they would do transporter maps because in places there was a fair bit of backtracking which is always a bit tedious for me.
- I played hardcore, which is supposed to give you no black bar hints or sparkles and yet there are sparkles on the HOS.
- Random click penalty on HOS
- Have to play each HOS twice
- Some items on HOS especially in the list type were a bit small and hard to make out but I always find this with ERS, I don't like their HOS at all because of the kind of graphics
- A lot of puzzles were the same kind or variation of it -swap tiles around
- A lot of interactions and some puzzles were in small boxes on scenes
HOS (hidden object scenes)
repeat all of them (play them twice), random click penalty on mode I played, some hard to make out
8 find hidden runes in scene with brooch you move area
10 silhouette then use the item you found - in the scene to uncover next one
6 list - mild to normal interactive
22 puzzles - easy to medium hardness
It's slightly different storyline and if love fantastical plots and graphics and don't mind there is no transporter map then I think you will enjoy it. Good enough length and good amount of new locations.
I recommend this game!

- All extras - music, concept art, wallpaper, screensaver locked until after you play the bonus
HOS (hidden object scenes)
repeat all of them (play them twice), random click penalty on mode I played, some hard to make out
8 find hidden runes in scene with brooch you move area
10 silhouette then use the item you found - in the scene to uncover next one
6 list - mild to normal interactive
22 puzzles - easy to medium hardness
BONUS review
Plot is tied up in main game and bonus is just side story. About 2/3rds is in new area which is good and I felt it was the same quality as in the main game.
HOS
3 hidden rune type
2 list (play one twice)
2 silhoutte (play one twice)
6 puzzles
I feel I'm generous giving this CE 3 stars as for me a CE has to have collectables or achievements which this doesn't have - only usual (SG, bonus chapter, wallpaper, concept art etc) which is why I don't recommend it but will recommend the SE. While it was a good enough bonus play just over an hour on it's own doesn't merit a recommendation.
I don't recommend this game.

If you have the other great adventures game then it is a LOT alike but if you really loved it and wanted more then I recommend this to you. It's a cute sims meets adventure task game by the developers of lost souls:enchanted paintings. I know I got at least 3 hrs out of it as I don't like to use the hints (but still used some) and I got all the achievements. The achievements are just different things you collect throughout the game, the butterflies and ladybugs fill up the greenhouse and the bones for the dog is your limited hints. Every 5 bones you get a hint and they are limited so don't use them too often.
In the demo you find that you can only see rooms once you unlock them and that's what you do throughout the game. By various means unlock doors and areas searching in each to find everything you need.
You can decorate the christmas tree and outside. There are two playable characters that you switch between and if you find one can't do something try clicking on the other. Just click and drag them to where you want them and then click on the item you want them to use.
There are a handful of minigames (6 ?), but it does have a skip button on it if you are stuck but it is very slow to fill.
There is an objective button which you can hide, along with a combine button but you can just click and drag items in the inventory to combine them.
I do find you have to scour each new area as it's hard to get all the bones and extras and can easily overlook things to interact with. Look through windows to make sure you get everything.
I just love these games as it's like the sims but with more task objectives. I like that concept and love that it's different, although it is very much like the first game.
A cute, not too hard - filler game, something to use a coupon on.
I recommend this game!

MY REVIEWS ARE BASED ON FINISHED GAMEPLAY
I don't know how I ended up buying this as if I demoed this I wouldn't have bought it. I do like 'filler' games - short, simple and sweet to be played in between LF or HOPAs if it's done well but this feels more like a student's attempt at a game rather than a polished game from the famous DEVs that has put their name with the other dev that I don't know.
At the beginning it was so bad it was nearly good but not quite! I have no idea who it is made for as in the first chapter you play a Ouija board but apart from that I think it is aimed for children but then at the end it does get slightly harder.
The 14 puzzles, except for two (medium) were so easy it was unbelievable. Every area was very contained so you couldn't get lost and basically if you pick up an object you use it in the next scene or within a couple of minutes. You did need to have a good memory as I thought puzzle solutions would be recorded in the task list but unless I missed it I couldn't find it. There were some arcade puzzles.
The gameplay was very clunky and slow, if you didn't click exactly in the right place it wouldn't recognise it. I hated those arrows and that when I clicked on them, when it zoomed in it made me feel weird. Graphics were mostly OK but in some areas and HOS they weren't.
19 HOS were all silhouette. You play all of them twice and one three times.
Apart from the opening and a couple of scenes at the end, the game had no resemblance to the pied piper. I did feel the last two chapters were the best (which is why it's getting 2 stars and not 1 star which is was going to get) but the clunky annoying controls, repeating HOS, so simple it was annoying puzzles, and very short game play, I don't recommend this game.
TIME 2hrs 40mins on hard (no skipping).
I don't recommend this game.

I finished the CE and the bonus wasn't worth it IMO and was just a backstory so the ending in the SE is the same.
I should have stuck with my first instincts of this game, that the graphics are dreary and thought the puzzles were boring and the HOS was mostly junkpile. The plot was good and it’s a good length game but that was about it.
I bought the CE on sale before I realised the SE had morphs! I love collectables and morphs but the morphs were not well done. The icon changed when it went over a morph and mostly it was in dark shadows so it was really hard to see. I like collectables/morphs to be a challenge but I prefer it not to solely rely on darkness to do this.
I thought it was great that the transporter map had two different choices on it, one for morph tips and one for things to do in a scene. You can turn both on or off during the game and I wish every DEV would do this.
I know a lot of people like their challenge to be purely memory and don’t mind loads of backtracking. If you like that then this game delivers. I prefer my gameplay and puzzles to be more of a challenge. The backtracking in this was HUGE even with a map, backtrack for one thing then go somewhere else. This makes it more bitty for me and just didn’t have a good flow for my taste. This game just did not keep my attention due to this.
I feel this developer has done better graphics in the past, and this is apart from the dreary look.
29 PUZZLES (has a skip button)
The puzzles by the end I wanted to scream if I saw one more puzzle “you’ve seen this combination before.” They were so easy it was boring and also kept repeating a certain type – swap tiles/rings etc. At the beginning there was hardly any ‘puzzles’ and I don’t class looking up a combination in your journal as a puzzle and there were LOADS of ‘puzzles’ like that.
There were about 3 or 4 arcade type. I prefer logical, work out puzzles rather than guess the right sequence etc. Apart from 1 or 2 puzzles I did not like them at all. You also have auto tips on hard mode which you should have an info button to bring up this info without it automatically being given.
19 HOS
9 reverse (put an item back in a scene)
10 list type
Most were repeated, do one list then it’s repeated as a reverse scene. There is no random click penalty on the hard mode (choice of two modes you have). A lot was in the junk pile realm, some very small items. I personally didn’t like the look of most of them even though the reverse kind is my favourite kind of HOS.
TIME main game over 5 hrs (hard mode)
I have no problem recommending the SE due to it having morphs but I just thought overall it was a bit boring and I did not like the graphics, puzzles or HOS. But again your taste may be different.
I recommend this game!

BONUS EXTRAS & GAME
Apart from the usual (SG, wallpaper, concept art) the only real extra was 40 morphs and they have done it better in their other games, unless you love looking at shadows.
I wouldn’t have really known that the plot was tied up in the main game until I played the bonus which was just a backstory and although it added slightly to the overall story it wasn’t worth it re plot alone and in the middle just got weird for me. But then I rarely think a bonus is worth it on plot alone. I did get 1hr 10mins out of the bonus and mostly it was in a new area and the graphics did actually have some colour to it.
HOS
4 list
3 reverse kind
One of the scenes it was the third time you played it as it was one you played in main game twice already. You repeat each scene, so the list became reverse.
9 Puzzles
Three arcade, configurations, swap tiles/things around to make image
TIME main game over 5 hrs
BONUS another 1hr 10 mins
I’m not recommending the CE as it is double price than a SE, the morphs wasn’t that well done and I just wasn’t loving gameplay to even overlook the other things. Even though the bonus had new area and it was over an hour.
I don't recommend this game.

I finished the CE which was worth it (see that review for bonus info etc).
I gave the first mystery of the ancients 2 stars as it was a bit below average, here it's very different and is a vast improvement.
This is a very good HOPA. It’s more adventure with some puzzles (22 puzzles and only 11 HOS) which is my type of game.
The plot was good but a bit abrupt at the end. I wished it was fleshed out a bit more throughout the game, but after playing bonus, none of the main characters were in the bonus so that aspect doesn’t change. I just thought it was a good plot so would have liked more of it.
It isn’t in the demo but there is dark ‘spirit’ in this game, so it has dark elements to it but not as dark as the first game in this series. I'd have preferred it if it didn't have that as thought the other side of the the plot - the professors was more interesting and would have loved that side of it explored more.
The graphics are good (although that kind isn’t my personal favourite).
This game has a lot of variety of areas which is great and it also has a very good transporter map with hints in it. There are three modes of play which is explained but note hardcore has no skip or hint button, so if you just don’t want sparkles you can choose “advanced” the middle option as you can’t change your option once you start.
22 PUZZLES (roughly I think I’m out by a couple, I class a puzzle if it has a skip button)
Thank you devs! A wide variety of hardness but mostly in the medium and medium/hard for a HOPA. LOVED the puzzles. There is also a wide variety of types of puzzles, from logical to arcade and even one hard (for me) timed puzzle. I loved the puzzles, it made the game for me. There were some old ones but it was mixed in with some types that aren’t that common. I thought it was a perfect hardness, easy enough not to be frustrated but not so easy as to become boring. I played advanced for a change instead of hardcore (as I like the option of the skip or hint button even if I rarely use it in any games) and with that timed puzzle was glad I did but did manage to do it.
11 HOS
Another reason why I enjoyed this game so much – no repeating of any scenes! YES – thank you! Due to the type of game graphics I thought they were clear enough and not that many junk pile, mostly cluttered. Interactive, all list type.
TIME 4HRS 45MINS (no hints except map hints and no skipping. I was on one puzzle for AGES.)
I recommend this game!

CE EXTRAS and BONUS
39 turtles to collect. This is how collectables should be, challenging and not that obvious in quite a few scenes. I LOVED them, and they were the best collectables I can remember for a long time.
Collectables and achievements, having both makes a CE for me as not interested in anything else bar the bonus play. The one negative I have to say re the achievements is that 4 out of 15 of the achievements was time related. This isn’t a TM game so never understand why achievements are do a HOS in under a minute etc.
11 wallpaper
10 concept art
7 music
BONUS (spoiler as to puzzle and HOS type)
It’s the best quality bonus I’ve played for ages, not because of plot but purely it was all in a new location and there were quite a few different scenes in the new locations as well. It wasn’t very long about 1hr 10mins but it was good and very well done. After the minimum amount of HOS in the main game it did feel like there were more re ratio as I counted 3 HOS but they were of a completely different kind than main game. They were all find the shapes, once you found a shape you then used that in the HOS to uncover or do something else to get another and so on. Highest interaction you can have.
The 10 (roughly) puzzles in the bonus were good, I thought they were about medium hardness. They did repeat one kind 3 times – draw a line between each coloured gem but I love that puzzle and haven’t seen that in ages.
The puzzles and how the collectables were done made this game for me but the gameplay was good as well. It all depends on what you are interested in but I recommend it and it does deserve 5 stars for transporter map, great collectables, achievements, good puzzles, non repeating of HOS, a bit different plot, and good gameplay.
TIME 4HRS 45MINS (no hints except map hints and no skipping)
BONUS another 1hr 10 mins (same as above)
I recommend this game!

This is a perfect nancy drew game; no impossible mini games and they have a reset buttons on a couple, no impossible timed element, a great story, largest amount of characters I think I've seen in a ND game.
It's set in a boarding school and you have to find the black cat - a person sending notes to other pupils and things then happen to them. I learned a lot in this game, from music to more about a famous writer. It was all so well done.
I love the more modern ND games as there isn't that intrusive old interface, and you get achievements at the end which are fun. If you don't get them all, go back to an old manual save near the end and try again (although one won't work at the end.)
It's a perfect balance of great plot but not too much dialogue, great mini-games of all types and hardness and a great pace. Some ND games are more adventure this is more adventure/mini games.
MINI-GAMES (spoilers ahead as to type)
I'm useless at arcade games but I do love some types and hate others but here they weren't hard (and I played on senior) and loved all of them. There were other non arcade, puzzles as well and some very intelligent (well thought out ones.) As usual you can't skip any puzzle but if you get stuck just go to a walkthrough, there are really no timed ones (thankfully) that you have to do (apart from sometimes the making food one). They were all very doable but you do need to work some out and get a pen and paper.
LOVED all of them and the variety of them.
Usually there are about 2 mini-games you can repeat as often as you want, here there are four. I just sat for hours playing the first three over and over!
1) A great dart game which anyone can take the rules and apply to any dart game - it's a bit different.
2) Air hockey
3) Making up orders. I appreciated this one as it was varied, mostly it wasn't timed so it was just fun. Sometimes it was (when a teacher orders) but it was just one order.
4) Timed match pair - You didn't have to do this so that was good but it was good.
If you play junior you get a to-do list which you tick off and hints from your friends when you phone them. Some puzzles are apparently slightly easier.
There is a thing called second chance if you make a fatal mistake but it's auto saved and takes you back to just before you made it which is good. It's manual save so save often.
It was so much fun from start to finish, I didn't find any annoying puzzles it was pure fun. The interactions (what you have to do) was very varied and thought out as well as the plot.
Have fun playing, I know I did!
My favourite up till now has been white wolf, and venice but do think this tops it.
I recommend this game!
